Subsequent prizes include the San Francisco Symphony Pepsi Cola Young Artists Award, California Youth Symphony - Young Artists Award, Music Academy of the West Outstand- ing Performer Award, San Fran- cisco Music Club Scholarship (twice), Hana and Leonard Stone Award from the Juilliard School of Music and awards from the San Francisco Musical Society. Miss McDermott, a native of New York, began piano studies at age 5 and was a scholarship stu- dent at the Manhattan School of Music at age 10 with Dalmo Carra, then with Constance Keene, and at age 12 she pei- formed the Mendelssohn Concerto in C Minor with the National Miss McDermott won the 1983 Young Concert Artists Interna- tional Auditions which led to a re- cital in the Young Concert Artists Series at the 92nd Street Y and a recital at the Fifth Young Concert Artists Series at the JFK Center for the Performing Arts.
