Basket logo, all by Jeff Scissors
... Mirrors are all along top of
counter on full walls in rear and
above front windows ... A
couple of counter cases are
beautifully styled with oval-
scalloped gray wood framing.
This wasn't just a new paint
job ... the entire place was gut-
ted ... New booths with black
leather seats and back against
gray wood, new carpeting, new
ceiling, new ceramic tile by
counter and waiting area .. .
Even waitress uniforms have
been changed ... and the dis-
hes, too ... Only thing that re-
mained was cooking area.
Break Basket menu remains
the same ... no change in items
or prices ... and the waitresses,
many who have been there since
the Nosherie days, all smile
even more in the new, gracious
surroundings.

and awarded two gold medals of

PIZZERIA

More important than people
may_ think is having a very fine
chef/owner in the kitchen .. .
It's like money in the bank for a
delicious, high quality dinner.
And then there's Bob Kimoto
... a masterful maitre eV/owner
in charge of the dining room ...
In Las Vegas' or Atlantic city
parlance, the presence of Heinz
and Bob is like having Lady
Luck on your side for a sure bet
when dining out.
We passed on the elegant pas-
try cart with goodies prepared
by Pastry Chef Barbaro Salino,
formerly of The Appe'teaser in
Milford .. . The decision was
prompted by an opportunity of
having Bob flame fresh straw-
berries at tableside to put over
ice cream for all five at our
table ... He is so deft in his
ability ... so precise ... and the
result was a superb offering of
strawberries flambe.
Presently, The Drake is only
open for dinner . . . Monday-
Thursday, 6 p.m to 10 p.m., Fri-
day and Saturday, 6 p.m. to 11
p.m.
The Drake Restaurant has ar-
rived ... and emerging victori-
ous.
IT COULD BE called a real
shower of stars ... with Karen
and Norman Fell leading the
cavalcade ... May 9, Michigan
Cancer Foundation research
benefit dinner in their honor at
Westin Hotel ... will include
attendance of John Ritter, Tim
Reid (both'honorory co-chairmen
with Lee Iacocca, Burt Reynolds
and Dom DeLuise), Daphne
Maxwell Reid, Linda and Adam
Arkin, Carole and Harve Ben-
nett, Sally Kellerman, Richard
Kline, Audrey Lindley, Mark
Rydell, Michael Silversher,
James Whitmore, Frank Yablan
and Tracy Hotchner ... among
others.
The honorary celebrity com-
mittee reads like a movie and
television "Who's Who" ...
friends of the Fells who have
volunteered to help in one way
or another ... Alan Bergman,
Joe Silver, Sammy Davis Jr.,
Don Gordon, Sidney Pollack,
Bert Convy, Jack Ging, Ed
McMahon, Lynn Redgrave,
David Steinberg and Elizabeth
Taylor.
Frank Stella is general
chairman ... and David Herme-
lin master of ceremonies.
FIRST MAJOR overall re-
juvenation in 15 years has made
Bread Basket Deli in Lincoln
Center, Oak Park, among most
beautiful deliatessen-
restaurants in the Midwest ...
Restaurant was called Nosherie
then ... Eight years ago, when
changed to Bread Basket, Ron
Forman and former partner
Bennett Terebelo took cans of
paint to make a bright orange
and brown look.
It now has the look of ele-
gance ... beautifully styled by
interior decorator Fern Wallach
... with effect of eating in one's
own dining room ... No more
bright oranges and browns ...
Now there's the softness of
grays, silver and black ... with
silhouette-like pictures on wall,
red diamonds and new Bread
