The theme of the conference is "Jewish History — Our Humanistic Perspective." Guest speaker will be Yosef The Goell, reporter for Jerusalem Post. Goell is a spokesman for the Israel Society for Secular Humanistic Judaism. He will discuss Secu- lar Humanistic Judaism in Is- rael and the soon to be founded International Institute for Secu- lar Humanistic Judaism. The institute is a cooperative effort of Humanistic Jews from all over the world to establish seminars and literature that promote the Secular Humanistic Jewish point of view. In addition, the conference will feature Prof. R. Joseph Hoffmann of the University of Michigan department of Near Eastern studies, and Roger . Greeley, assistant dean of the Humanist Institute. Lectures will be given by Sherwin T. Wine, rabbi of the Birmingham Temple and foun- der of Humanistic Judaism, Daniel Friedman, rabbi of Cong. Beth Or in Deerfield, Ill.; former Detroiter Robert Barr, rabbi of Cong. Beth Adam in Cincinnati, Ohio; and Jeffery Silberman, rabbi of the Cong. for Humanis- tic Judaism in Westport, Conn. The conference will feature a special evening at the Detroit Institute of Arts for dinner and "The Precious Legacy" exhibit. Officers and directors will be elected. Board Members from the De- troit area include, Carolyn Fried, Eli Master, Lynne Mas- ter, E. Ronald Milan, Ben Piv- nick, James Reiter, Marilyn Rowens, Robert Sandler and Jacqueline Zigman. Suzanne Paul and Marilyn Rowens are coordinating the conference. M. Bonnie Cousens serves as man- aging editor of the journal and Humanistic Judaism Jerris is executive direc- tor.
