Holds Memorial

42nd annual Warsaw Ghetto Up-
rising Memorial 2:30 p.m. Sunday
at the Workmen's Circle Center,
26341 Coolidge, Oak Park.
Guest speaker for the afternoon
, will be Dr. Sidney Bolkosky, pro-
fessor at the University of
Michigan-Dearborn. The pro-
gram will also feature poetry and
prose readings, partisan songs
and a special candlelighting
ceremony.

The community-wide obser-
vances of Israel Independence
Day (Yom HaAtzmaut), will
begin with marking Israel War
Memorial Day (Yom Hazika-
ron).(JTA) — The commemora-
tion service, sponsored by the
Jewish Community Council, will
be held Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at
Cong. B'nai Moshe. Mira Eisen-
berg and Benny Schwarz, Israel
shaliach, are chairing the Yom
Hazikaron event.
Natan Yanatan, Israeli poet, is
the keynote speaker for the eve-
ning. The film Lior, written and
assembled by Yonatan from his
oldest son's photographs, will be
presented.
Also participating in the pro-
' gram are Israeli war veterans
with Doron and Noa Eisenberg in
the presenting of colors; Bob
Gould, trumpet call; Addi Alter-
man, drum; Rabbi Stanley Rosen:.
baum, Yizkor; Cantor Louis
Klein, El Moleh Rachamim; Col.
Isaac Raveh, torch lighting; Sol
Lachman, readings; Carol Lasser,
piano; Nicolai Lemberg, flute;
Zipporah Frank, Hebrew
readings; and Abby Guyer,
English readings, with Chaim
Lowenthal, flute.
A special altar arrangement to
commemorate Israel's war dead is
being designed by Marilyn Levy
and Mayla Yakar.
The service will close with the
singing of Hatikvah.
Israel Independence Day activi-
ties sponsored by the Jewish
Community Council, will include
an all-day celebration on April 28
at the main Jewish Community
Center.
Emceeing the day, will be
David Hermelin. The program is
presented by the Council in coop-
eration with a number of its
member agencies, the Jewish
Community Center and the
Jewish Welfare Federation.
Exhibits open at 9:30 a.m. A
main program starts at 1 p.m.
when Jewish Welfare Federation
President Joel Tauber will intro-
duce Consul General Emanuel
Zippori. Following Zippori's ad-
dress, the Israeli musical troupe
Duo Reim will perform.
Alex Blumenberg chairs the Is-
rael Independence Day Planning
Committee. Other members of the
committee are Robert Shapiro,
exhibits; Elaine Heavenrich, pub-
licity; David Gubow, volunteers;
- Alan Yost and Amitai Rudaysky,
zimriyah - rikudiah (song and
dance fest).
Also sitting on the committee
are Pam Opperer, Norman Ash,
Shelley Jackier, Rosalie Dean and
Peter Alter.
