E. of Evergreen) Rabbi Israel Miller, senior vice president of Yeshiva University, will be the guest speaker at a tes- timonial dinner in honor of Rabbi and Mrs. James I. Gordon at 6 p.m. May 5 in Stollman Hall of Young Israel of Oak-Woods. The dinner is being according the couple on the occasion of their aliyah. Dr. Miller, who earned the bachelor's degree, magna cum laude, at Yeshiva University and who was ordained at the univer- sity's affiliated Rabbi Isaac El- chanan Theological Seminary, where he teaches applied rab- binics, joined the university in 1968 as assistant to the president for student affairs. He was appointed vice president in 1970, and in 1976 was named chairman of the executive committee for univer- sity affairs, made up of the in- stitution's four vice presidents, which served as an interim gov- erning body pending the election of a new president. Dr. Miller is the past chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organ- izations. He was the founding president, and is now honorary president, of the American Zionist Federation; was for four years chairman of the American Zionist Council; was a member of the board of governors of the Jewish Agency and the executive of the World Zionist Organization; is past president of the Rabbinical Council of America and the Rab- bini Alumni of Rabbi Isaac El- chanan Theological Seminary; past president of the Association of Jewish Chaplains; and past chairman of the Commission on Jewish Chaplaincy of the Na- tional Jewish Welfare Board. In 1979, he was appointed chairman of the National Yediat Israel Committee of the World Zionist Organization. Dr. Miller's special interest in Soviet Jewry found expression in the three years of his national chairmanship of the American Jewish Conference on Soviet Jewry. He was a member of the presidium and a guiding force in Brussels, both in 1971 and in 1976, in the International Con- ference on Soviet Jewry. Dr. MIller serves as an officer of the international Memorial Foundation for Jewish Culture and as president for the Confer- ence on Material Claims Against Germany; as chairman of the Is-
