parents agree with the move to
let the teachers go, although
their criticism is directed more
towards the Cranbrook ad-
ministrators than the teachers
themselves. "They (the school)
should have been much more
careful with how they selected
those who were in charge of
admitting students," said
Marni Lustig, a 13-year-old
student at Kingswood Middle
School.
A Southfield woman with a
teenage daughter who has
attended Cranbrook for two
years, agreed that the blame
for the incident rested on the
school just as much, if not
more, than the three teachers.
"I can't believe they didn't
know what was going on and

make some attempt to stop it,"
she said.
That apparent ignorance on
the part of school officials, and
the fact that it has taken al-
most four years to redress the
damage wrought by the bagel
incident, is what rankles most
people. Dr. Bauder blames the
delay on her predecessor, Dan
Martin, who served as the
Educational Community's di-
rector through 1983.
"The administration at that
time believed that the use of
the symbols was an isolated
incident and that it had stop-
ped, which it had. Because
there was a new headmaster
at Brookside (Lowry) and be-
cause a new admissions proce-
dure was in place, it was the
