March 22 — Dr. and Mrs. Alan

Dan Halperin, minister for eco-
nomic affairs at the Israel Em-
bassy in Washington, D.C., will
address the Detroit Jewish com-
munity and its Ampal affiliate on
April 21 at 11 a.m. at the South-
field Hilton to pay tribute to at-
torney Morris Lieberman.
Halperin, who has served as
economic minister since 1979,
will discuss Israel's economy and
its options for recovery.
Halperin has worked with Fi-
nance Ministers Levi Eshkol adn
Simha Ehrlich as well as with the
Israel Broadcasting Authority,
with which served as a commen-
tator on political and economic
events.
Lieberman is one of Ampal's
founders and original investors
and served Ampal in its early
years as national secretary and
later, as a vice president. He is
presently a director of the corpo-
ration, a position he has held since
1963, and a member of Ampal's
executive committee.
Lieberman has been active in
many Zionist and Jewish organ-
izations, including the Jewish
Community Council of Detroit,
American Jewish Congress,
Jewish National Fund and Jewish

Welfare Federation.
He is currently the campaign
chairman of the local Israel His-
tadrut Campaign and a director of
the National Committee for Labor
Israel, Labor Zionist Alliance and
the American Zionist Federation.
David A. Mersky, vice
president, Ampal-American Is-
rael Corp. and president of Ampal
Securities Corp., a wholly-owned
marketing subsidiary of Ampal,
also will speak.
Ampal-American Israel Corpo-
ration is a New York corporation
with assets of nearly $1 billion.
Ampal's Class A stock is traded on
the American Stock Exchange.
Ampal was established in 1942'
to strengthen Israel's economy by
developing its industry to benefit
both Israel and its supporters.
