came an avid history and litera-
ture enthusiast. Eventually, he
became a teacher at Kibbutz
Sarid's high school.
In the years that followed,
Yonatan held a variety of posi-
tions within Israeli educational
institutions.

Hazikaron Memorial Service will
be held April 23 at 7:30 p.m. at
Cong. B'nai Moshe sponsored by
the Jewish Community Council
and several of its member organ-
izations.
The memorial service is one
segment of a community-wide fes-
tival honoring Israel's 37th year
of independence.
Natan Yonatan, an Israeli poet
and writer, will speak in com-
memoration of Israeli soldiers
who have lost their lives in past
and recent military conflicts.
Lior, a film Yonatan wrote and
_assembled from his oldest son's
photography will be presented.
Lior Yonatan, the film's
namesake, never saw this motion
picture tribute to his life. In 1973,
during the first days of the Yom
Kippur War, Lior was killed. He
was commanding a tank platoon
along the Suez Canal.
The senior Yonatan's poetry
and short stories have won him
Israel's most prestigious and
acclaimed literary prizes.
Born in Kiev, Russia, in 1923,
-Yonatan made aliyah to Israel,
with his parents at the age of 2. As
a young man of 22, Yonatan
joined the Hashomer Hatzair
youth movement and became an
involved member of Kibbutz
Sarid in the Jezreel Valley. Sarid
is still his home. After leading the
Bonn (JTA) — The Federal
state of North Rhine-Westphalia
has banned the letters "SS" and
"So" from vehicle license plates
because of their association with
the Nazi era. According to the
State Transportation Ministry,
many motorists have requested
the letters.
Also banned, although specifi-
cally requested, . are the letters
"KZ," the German abreviation for
concentration camp, and "HJ"
which once stood for Hitler
Jugend.

Carol Sherman, junior vice
president; Shirlee Snider, trea-
surer; Gert Left, patriotic in-

and Sadye Bosin, sunshine
chairman.
Officers will be formally in-
stalled at a membership dinner-
meeting in May. Ms. Sherman is
the chairman. Poppies are being
distributed by poppy chairman
