Zamir Chorale
Due For Concert
Sheldon Satovsky, president of
Shaarey Zedek Men's Club, an-
nounces that the men's club will
hold a concert in celebration of Is-
rael Independence Day on April
21 (Rosh Hodesh Iyar) at 8 p.m. in
the main sanctuary.
The concert, which is being
sponsored by the Judge Avery and
Joyce Cohn Family, will feature
the Zamir Chorale, directed by
Mati Lazar, in a program of Is-
raeli and modern Hebrew selec-
tions celebrating the 37th an-
niversary of Israel's statehood.
Cantor Chaim Najman will ap-
pear with the chorale as soloist.
This event will be open to the
entire community free of charge.
Marvin Cherrin is concert chair-
man. The committee consists of
Ben Cinitz, Mark London,
Michael Balkin, Dr. Jerry Laker
and Dr. Joseph Langnas. The con-
cert is also being held in coopera-
tion with the music division of
Shaarey Zedek's Cultural Com-
mission which is headed by Dr.
Samuel Stulberg, chairman; Dr.
Paul Gold and Mrs. Harvey Zalla,
co-chairmen.
Zamir Chorale has sung all over
the United States, Canada, Israel
and in Europe. The choir's reper-
toire spans the full spectrum of
Jewish musical expression, from
folk arrangements to works by
contemporary Jewish composers
including both sacred and secular
material.
The Zamir Chorale has repre-
sented the United States at the
Zimriyah International Choral
Festival in Israel, and has been
featured in the Israel Festival
performing works of Handel,
Beethoven, Stravinsky and Verdi
under Zubin Mehta, Carlo Maria
Giulini, Gary Bertini s and Daniel
Barenboim.
The chorale was invited to par-
ticipate in performances of
Leonard Bernstein's Kaddish
Symphony under the direction of
the composer. It has sung in Car-
negie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall,
Alice Tully Hall, the Kennedy
Center for the Performing Arts in
Washington, D.C. and other
major concert halls, college cam-
puses and communities in New
York and throughout the United
States.
The Zamir Chorale also is the
chorus-in-residence of the He-
brew Arts School in New York.
