Club Is Nixed
By Orange Bowl

Miami — Through the efforts of
a coalition of ethnic groups
formed and led by the American
Jewish Committee's Miami Chap-
ter, the Orange Bowl Committee
has decided not to hold its annual
team party at the restricted In-
dian Creek Country Club.
In the past, the OBC threw a
party at Indian Creek for players
and staff of the colleges involved
in the Jan. 1 football game.

Hawaii Gets
`Legacy' Torah

Washington (JTA) — A Torah
that once belonged to a Jewish
community in the Czechoslavak
town of Polna, all of whose mem-
bers were exterminated by the
Nazis, was given last week to a
five-year-old congregation in
Hawaii.
Sen. Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii)
described the event to the Senate
which brought the 200-year-old
Torah to Cong. Beth Shalom in
Kena, Hawaii. "In 1940 as the
country fell under the boots of the
Nazis, Polna's Jewish community
was deported to the concentration
camps never to return," Sen. In-
ouye said.
The Torah and other communal
possessions were sent to Prague
where they were part of 15,000
Jewish manuscripts, books and
other objects with which the Nazis
wanted to create a museum of the
extinct race. These items later be-
came part of the Jewish museum
in Prague and some are currently
touring the United States as part
of The Precious Legacy Exhibit.
