Members of the six local Reform
Jewish temples will hold a united
service at 8 p.m. April 12 at Tem-
ple Israel.
Participating in the service will
be Temple Beth El, Temple
Emanu-El, Temple Beth Jacob,
Temple Israel, Temple Kol Ami,
( and the Troy Jewish Congrega-
tion.
Sponsored by the Metropolitan
Detroit Federation of Reform
;--) Synagogues, the service is the
yearly event honoring the founder
and master builder of the Reform
movement in North America,
Rabbi Isaac Mayer Wise.
Guest speaker will be Rabbi
Daniel B. Syme, director of educa-
tion for the Union of American
Hebrew Congregations.
Rabbi Syme's sermon topic is
"Builders of Judaism -- Old and
New."
The service will also feature the
combined choirs of each of.. the
temples performing the Sacred
Service of Dr. Morton Gold, Tern-
, ple Israel music director.
Rabbi Syme, son of Temple Is-
rael's Rabbi M. Robert Syme, is a
graduate of the University of
1 Michigan, and was ordained at
the Hebrew Union College-
Jewish Institute of Religion in
Cincinnati, Ohio.
He has written extensively in
the areas of education,
Christian-Jewish relations and
social justice.

Bonn (JTA) — Simon Wiesent-
hal was presented with the Gros-
1 ses Verdienstkreutz (Grand Serv-
ice Cross), one of West Germany's
highest awards, for his contribu-
tions to the reconciliation be-
tween Jews and Germans.
"You have devoted your life to
\
this task despite the deep suffer-
I ing you experienced under the
National Socialist reign of ter-
ror," Chancellor Helmut Kohl
wrote in a letter of congratula-
tions to Wiesenthal.
The 76-year-old Nazi-hunter
heads the Vienna-based Jewish
Documentation Center. Born in
2 Poland, he was held in 12 Nazi
concentration camps during
World War II. Eighty-nine of his
relatives were killed in the
Holocaust.
