Rev. James Lyons

Rev. James R. Lyons, director of
the Ecumenical Institute for
Jewish-Christian Studies, will be
guest speaker at the Avodah-
Chai-Brandeis Chapter, Pioneer
Women/Naamat, on April 15 at 1
p.m. in the Whitehall Apts
clubhouse.
Rev. Lyons has travelled exten-
sively in the Middle East, where
he pursued studies in the histori-
cal background of the current
political situation. He has also
conducted research in Europe and
Israel on the Holocaust.
His topic for discussion is
entitled "Update: The Middle
East." Following the presenta-
tion, there will be a question and
answer session. Guests are wel-
come, and there is a nominal
charge.

JCCouncil Slate
Is Announced

Oakland County Commissioner
Lawrence Pernick, chairman of
the nominating committee for the
Jewish Community Council of
Metropolitan Detroit, has an-
nounced the slate of officers and
executve committee members for
the 1985-1986 program year.
The names of all candidates
(petitions received by last Thurs-
day and nominating committee
recommendations) will be on the
ballot at the election held during
the season's final assembly on
May 23 at Adat Shalom
synagogue.
Nominating committee mem-
bers are: Pernick, chairman; Mar-
tin Hollander, Mrs. Morton Op-
penheim, Florence Jo Saltzman,
Dr. Gerald A. Teller, Mrs. Milton
Wohl and David Wolock.
The slate presented by the
nominating committee includes
Leon S. Cohan, president; David
L. Denn, Esther Fealk, and Ellen
Labes, vice presidents; Franklin
J. Ellias, secretary; Rabbi
Richard C. Hertz, treasurer.
For election to three-year terms
on the executive committee, the
