defenses in Lebanon which are
loaded on trucks for transporta-
tion back to Israel. "But the bodies
of our sons are also being brought
back," they said. "We would
rather the soldiers were alive and
the concrete blocks left there."
The parents also told Peres that
their sons had told them the "iron
fist" policy in Lebanon is not halt-
ing attacks on the IDF. Peres re-
-, plied that "iron fist" is not an
5 accurate term for an operation
1 which is aimed at safeguarding
the lives of soldiers serving in
Lebanon.
An Israeli soldier was killed
and six others were wounded in a
series of clashes with terrorists in
south Lebanon over the weekend.
At least eight terrorists were kil-
led.
Sgt. Yosef Moyal, 20, of
Beersheba lost his life in a skir-
mish with gunmen near Aduwer
village, north of Nabatiya. An-
other soldier was wounded when
his patrol was ambushed while
searching for terrorists who had
planted a roadside bomb near
Ansar village. Two terrorists
were killed in that action.
Four other Israeli soldiers were
wounded, none seriously, when a
108 mm. Katuysha rocket hit
their position near Lake Karoun
Friday. The sixth soldier was
wounded in a clash near Tyre.
Israel Defense Force units
searched Jiba village north of
Nabatiya on Saturday morning.
Five residents were killed when
they resisted inspection of their
car which was found to contain
several grenades.
Three terrorists were killed in a
clash with an IDF patrol at the
Litani River in south Lebanon
last Thursday night. Kalachnikov
assault rifles, rocket-propelled
grenade launchers and hand gre-
nades were recovered from the
73 bodies.

Bonn (JTA) — The town council
of Reutlingen has announced a
competition among local high
school students to design a tablet
commemorating Jewish victims
of Nazism in Reutlingen. The
project, undertaken by unanim-
ous vote, was seen by the council
members as a way to counteract
neo-Nazi propaganda aimed at
German youths.

Director Cited

Bonn (JTA) — Marc Scheps, Di-
rector of the Tel Aviv Museum,
has become the first Israeli to re-
ceive the Goethe Medal, the only
official decoration of the West
German Federal Republic in the
field of cultural exchange. The
award was made in recognition of
Scheps' longstanding contribu-
tions toward German-Israeli cul-
tural relations.
The Munich-based Goethe In-
stitute which selects the reci-
pients, has maintained a cultural
center in Israel for many years.
