At the request of Gov. James
Blanchard, the Jewish Commu-
nity Council of Metropolitan De-
troit has organized a program for
the official state of Michigan
Holocaust commemoration to
take place April .18 at 1 p.m. on
the steps of the Capitol Building
in Lansing.
State Representative David
Gubow, a member of the Council
executive committee, will preside.
Responding to remarks and the
presentation of a proclamation by
Lt Gov. Martha Griffiths and Gov.
Blanchard will be Franklin J. El-
lias, associate chairman of Coun-
cil's Holocaust subcommittee.
Outstate communities will be
represented by Dr. Kenneth
Phifer of Ann Arbor's First
Unitarian-Universalist Church,
Fr. James Bettendorf of the
Newman Center in Flint, and
Rabbi Morton Hoffman, spiritual
leader of Cong. Shaarey Zedek in
Lansing.
Musical selections will be pre-
sented by Cantor Chaim Najman
and Robin Schakne of Cong.
Shaarey Zedek and Frumeth
Brenda Hirsch of Flint.
Rabbi Charles Rosenzveig of
the Holocaust Memorial Center
will offer a me,morial prayer.

extended to Christian clergy,
members of the Greater Detroit
Round Table of the National Con-
ference of Christians and Jews,
Rev. James Lyons of the Ecumen-
ical Institute of Christian-Jewish
Studies and other interfaith lead-
ers.
Bus transportation from De-
troit is being arranged by the
Jewish Community Council.
