Camp David Pact
Gets Nod In Poll

New York (JTA) — The results
of a new poll on American foreign
policy. conducted by The New
York Times and published Mon-
day, showed that the American
public regards the Camp David
peace negotiations of 1978. as
Washington's most successful
foreign policy venture of recent
years. -
On a scale of 1 to 10, the public
gave the Camp David negotia-
tions, involving President Carter,
Egyptian President Anwar Sadat,
and Israel's Premier Menachem
Begin, the highest rating at an
average of 6.45, the Times said.
On the same scale the handing
of the Grenada situation by Wash-
ington was 5.66, the Iranian hos-
tage crisis 4.95 and the bombing
of the U.S. Embassy in Lebanon
4.18.
The Times' poll was based on
telephone interviews conducted
Feb. 23-27 with 1,533 adults
around the United States, exclud-
ing Alaska and Hawaii.
The poll also showed that the
Camp David negotiations were
rated equally high by people who
supported President Reagan in
1984 or his Democratic opponent,
Walter Mondale, the Times
pointed out.

Tel Aviir (JTA) — Two more
Jewish residents of Beirut have
been kidnapped, bringing the
number of Jewish residents ab-
ducted in the past few days to five,
according to reports from the
Lebanese capital.
Dr. Isaac Sasson, head of the
small Jewish community in Be-
irut, which totals less than 100
persons, and an 80-year-old man
identified as Celmence Dana,
were picked up on the street and
dragged into waiting cars.
Reports from Beirut said three
Jewish residents had been kid-
napped over the weekend. They
were identified as Haim Cohen,
39, Elie Spour, 68, and Elie Hal-
lak.
Last year, two members of the
Beirut Jewish community were
kidnapped. The body of Raul
Sobhi Mizrachi, a prominent
• Lebanese Jew, was found on the
seashore south of Beirut. Nothing
has been heard of Selim Jamm-
ous, described as a leader of the
West Beirut Jewish community.
Few Jews who had been living
in predominantly Moselm west
Beirut are reported to be moving
to what they regard as the "rela-
tive safety" of predominantly
Christian east Beirut.
