According to Reuben Maskit, general manager of the Soglowek ausage and Meat Factory in Nahariya, a European middle- man has offered to buy a large consignment of kosher "sausages" for shipment to Saudi Arabia from Europe. Maskit said the Saudi authorities selected his product after conducting an extensive arket survey which showed the Soglowek meats are best suited to their country's requirements. The Nahariya factory is now looking for a senior Moslem reli- gious figure to provide official cer- tification that the "sausages" con- tain no pork or pork byproducts which are forbidden to Moslems as they are to Jews. If the deal goes through, the Israeli "saus- ages" will be marketed in Saudi Arabia with no visible indication of their country of origin. . , • • JDC Bolsters Ethiopian Relief New York (JTA) — The Ameri can Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) has received $1.9 million in cash donations so far for its relief program in famine-stricken Ethiopia, accord- ing to Dr. Saul Cohen, executive vice-president of the JDC: Speaking at a press conference last week, Cohen said that in addition, the JDC has received donations of 80 tons of goods, such as clothing, medicine and medical supplies, for distribution in Ethiopia.
