Yeshivah Gedolah
Dean Honored

The New York chapter of the
alumni association of the
Yeshivah Gedolah honored the
'dean of the Yeshivah Gedolah,
Rabbi Leib Bakst, at a reception
earlier this month in New York.
Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan
(D-N.Y.) extended greetings. An
audio-visual presentation outlin-
ing the four decades of Torah
study under Rabbi Bakst's leader-
ship was shown.
The reception committee con-
I sisted of Yaakov Bakst, Dovid
Fein, Mordechai Ishakis, Shea
Klein and Shmuel Abba Silber-
berg.

Troy Group Plans
Pesach Seder

The Troy Jewish Congregation
will hold its third annual congre-
gational Passover Seder on April
6 at the Troy Hilton. The service
will begin at 6:30 p.m. and a tradi-
tional Jewish-style dinner will be
served at 7:30 p.m. Arrangements
can be made for toddlers and
younger children who may be
sharing an adult's dinner. For
reservations, call Carolyn David-
son, 652-2859, by Monday.
The Seder is open to everyone.
Hagaddah written by the congre-
gation's religious committee will
be used.

Men's Sabbath
At Beth Achim

' Cong. Beth Achim Men's Club
- will conduct services in obser-
vance of Men's Club Sabbath at
8:45 a.m. services Saturday.
Participants include President
Harold Baker, Harry Ellenson,
Arthur Sugarman, Louis Ellen-
son, Seymour Subar, George
Norman, Leonard Gutman, Israel
Liebowitz and Gerald Keller.
A special kiddush will follow
the services. The public is invited.

At Beth Shalom

An intercongregational cul-
tural program is slated to take
place at 7:45 p.m. Sunday at Cong.
Beth Shalom, co-sponsored by
Cong. B'nai Moshe, Cong. B'nai
David and Temple Emanu-El.
Canadian TV personality,
humorist and humanities
educator Dr. Allan Gould will
speak on "Laughing to keep from
Crying: The Jewish Joke and
Jewish Humor."
Admission is free.

School Honors
Adult Volunteer

Susan Cohen of West Bloom-
field has been awarded the first
Golden Nugget Award ever to be
given to a parent at The Adven-
ture School for Children with
Learning Disabilities.
Mrs. Cohen has been a volun-
teer for the school since 1983,
when she chaired the first Adven-
ture School auction.
