He was 85. He came to the United States in 1958 and headed the Lubavitch Rabbinic Study School in Pittsburgh from 1958 until 1967. Born in Rogachev in what is now Soviet Byelorussia, he studied from the time he was 11 until he was 24 at the Lyubavichi Yeshiva, near Smolensk. Rabbi Dworkin served as chief rabbi for several Russian cities until the start of World War II. At that time, many Soviet Jews sought refuge in Samarkand, a Soviet province and he served them as rabbi. After the war he became chief rabbi of cities in Germany, France and Ireland. Herman Miller Herman Miller, former owner of Miller's Department Store in Crystal Falls, Mich., died March 8 at age 81. Born in Crystal Falls, Mr. Mil- ler lived in Detroit for the past 19 years, since his retirement. He was a member of Cong. Shaarey Zedek, a past president of the Crystal Falls Chamber of Commerce and was active in the Rotary and Lions Clubs. Mr. Miller was a past president of the Upper Peninsula B'nai B'rith and a 32nd degree Mason. He leaves his wife, Jean; a daughter, Mrs. Mordechai (-Mar- lene) Kreinin of East Lansing; a brother, Lester of St. Louis Park, Minn.; and five grandchildren. Born in Detroit, Mrs. Loeb lived 36 years in Lawrenceville, Ill., be- fore moving to Niles, Ill. She was a member of B'nai B'rith, City of Hope, Zionist Organization of America, Hadassah and the Northwest Suburban Jewish Congregation in Illinois. She is survived by her husband, Herman; a son, Edward; two daughters, Mrs. David (Diane) Lebovitz of Morton Grove, Ill., and Laura; a brother, Fred Simon of Chicago, Ill.; two sisters, Mrs. Harry (Helen) Berlin and Mrs. Harry (Shirley) Korobkin, Both of Southfield; and one grandson. Marie Pontillon, Friend of Israel Paris (JTA) — Marie-Josephine Pontillon, one of Israel's earliest and staunchest friends in France, died March 3 at age 60. Mrs. Pontillon, affectionately known as "Marie-Jo" started helping Israel in the 1950s obtain French-made arms and technological help.
