Silverman Village
Registration Open

The Fresh Air Society is accept-
ing applications for campers for
its Silverman Village campsite.
Silverman Village is a resident
camp program for children with
learning and behavior problems
who require a more highly
structured and emotionally sup-
portive environment than is usu-
ally provided by a regular camp.
The program is housed in a sepa-
rate unit of Camp Maas.
Silverman Village accepts 40
boys and girls, age 6 to 14, in each
of its two 25-day sessions. The
staff is drawn from students in
special education or related fields.
Children participate in all the
usual camp activities: swimming,
canoeing, sailing, horseback rid-
ing, cook-outs, nature apprecia-
tion, drama and dance. A learning
center provides film strips,
movies, cooking activities and
newspaper writing. The Shabbat
is celebrated with candlelighting,
stories and special activities.
Parents or other professionals
who are involved with the family
or child may refer children to Sil-
verman Village. Applications are
available.
For families unable to pay the
full camp fee, scholarships are
provided by the Fresh Air Society
and the United Foundation. For
information, call or write the
Fresh Air Society, 6600 W. Maple,
West Bloomfield, 48033, 661-
0600.
