Nations Security Council resolu-
tion that would have condemned
Israel's military actions against
terror in southern Lebanon. The
American veto was the only vote
against the resolution, which was
supported by 11 of the Security
Council's 15 members. Britain,
Australia and Denmark
abstained.
Four attacks against IDF forces
in south Lebanon were reported
last week, but there were no
casualties. Most of the incidents
involved the firing of RPG's (Roc-
ket Propelled Grenades) at Israeli
positions by Shiite Moslems.
In a related development, the
Foreign Press Association (FPA)
in Israel has protested at what it
describes as the lack of access to
south Lebanon for locally-based
representatives of the world
press.
The FPA board said: "The FPA
protests strongly the lack of ac-
cess for Israeli-based correspon-
dents to south Lebanon in recent
weeks to cover spot news." -

New York (JTA) - A key pros-
ecution witness in the upcoming
trial in France of Klaus Barbie,
the Nazi war criminal known as
the "Butcher of Lyon," warned
last week that the employment of
Barbie after the war by the U.S.
Army's Counter Intelligence
Corps (CIC) might influence the
outcome of the trial in favor of
Barbie.
"The United States had
legitimized him by hiring him to
the CIC," Michel Thomas, a hero
of the French Resistance who is
now an American citizen living in
New York, told a luncheon meet-
ing sponsored by the Anti-
Defamation League of B'nai
B'rith. "This fact will be used by
the defense at Barbie's trial,"
Thomas said.
Furthermore, the U.S. Justice
Department's report last year on
the U.S. involvement with Bar-
bie, called the employment of the
Butcher of Lyon by the CIC "de-
fenseable," Thomas pointed out.
He was referring to the report by
Allen Ryan, the former director of
the Justice Department's office of
Special Investigations.
"The United States should re-
ctify its mistake and do whatever
can be done" to amend the conclu-
sion of Ryan's report "before the
trial opens," Thomas said.

tional Dateline," a nationally

gram co-sponsored by Americans
