sition. "I got almost unanim-
ous support from the congre-
gation. It is wide open to new
and different things."
Rabbi Magidson applied for
admission to the Rabbinical
Assembly, the Conservative
rabbis' body, for three years,
beginning in 1981. At the 1983
convention, she came four
votes short of the 75 percent
needed to be approved for
membership in the RA. Just
this week she was accepted for
membership.
Commenting on the JTS de-
cision to allow women to be or-
dained, Rabbi Magidson told
The Jewish News she is de-
lighted.
"It will be a benefit to
Judaism, not just the Conser-

Magidson, married and the
mother of a 21/2 year old, said
her husband supported her de-
cision to go into the rabbinate.
"He was more than 100 per-
cent behind me all the way,"
she said. Twice he has relo-
cated as she changed pulpits.

Former Detroiter Rabbi Jill
Coleman holds a pulpit in
Maryland, while Gail Posner
Karp and Alane Simons Kat-
zew have become cantors. An-
other ex-Detroiter, Rabbi
Emily Feigenson, currently is
on the staff of the Union of
American Hebrew Congrega-
tions in New York.
