Town Meeting

Continued from Page 1

budgeting process.
Federation President Joel
D. Tauber said the annual
process "is not a case of voting
for good programs as against
bad programs. It is a difficult
decision-making process in-
volving hundreds of people re-
presenting the interests of
thousands of Detroiters and
our fellow Jews in Israel and
overseas." The Allied Jewish
Campaign currently funds
more than 60 agencies.
A Campaign progress report
will be given by Chairman
Robert H. Naftaly, followed by
a presentation of local needs
by James M. August, chair-
man of Federation's Confer-
en.ce of Division Chairmen.
Martin E. Citrin, immediate
past president of the Council of
Jewish Federations, will pre-
sent overseas requirements.
Tauber will preside.
Audience participation will
follow.
The 6 p.m. meeting will
begin with a sandwich supper.
Reservations are required and
there is a charge. For -reserva-
tions, or to place a topic on the
agenda of the town meeting,
call Mary Neubert at Federa-
tion, 965-3939:
Although the 1985 Cam-
paign has 18 days remaining,
volunteers have been asked to
complete their assignments by
Wednesday to give as accurate
a funding picture as possible.
At a report meeting last
Sunday at the Jewish Com-
munity Center — which fea-
tured the opening of Arthur
Leipzig's photographic exhibit
"Jewish Life Around the
World" — it was announced
that $16,805,067 had been
pledged to date by 11,000 con-
tributors. The figure repre-
sents a $1.8 million increase
over last year from the same
contributors. In addition,
$664,000 has been pledged so
far toward Operation Moses,
Israel's absorption of Ethio-
pian Jews, and $6,700,000 has
been pledged over the past five
years for Project Renewal.

AJC Telethon,
Closing Set

With only 18 days remain-
ing until the closing of the
1985 Allied Jewish Campaign,
volunteers are preparing for
Campaign Telethon Week,
March 21-28, at the United
Hebrew Schools.
Several thousand past and
potential contributors will be
called between 6 p.m. and 9:30
p.m. on March 21, 25, 26 and

28, and on Sunday, March 24,
from 9:30 a.m. to noon, and
4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The Campaign closing will
be held on April 2 at Adat
Shalom Synagogue. The fes-
tivities will begin at 6:30 p.m.
with cocktails and hors
d'oeuvres, followed by an Is-
raeli buffet dinner.
Entertainment for the Is-
raeli cabaret will be provided
by singer Norma Harpaz, the
Abraham Ben-Zeev Trio and
the Hora Aviv Dancers,
nine-member folkdance
troupe.
Preceding the entertain-
ment, Campaign totals will be
announced by all divisions,
under the direction of Cam-
paign chairmen Robert Naf-
taly and Stanley Frankel.
Tickets for the event are
available at a nominal charge
from the Jewish Welfare Fed-
eration. For information, call
Barbara Satinsky at Federa-
tion, 965-3939.
