Jews Still Burdened

Ki Tisah:
Exodus
30:11-34:35.1 Kings
18:1-39.

Man must ever have this sense
of security in order to function ef-
fectively and successfully and be a
positive factor in this society.
Long after he has stepped forth
from his father's house, physically
and emotionally, he must still
possess some ultimate haven from
the exacting challenges of life; a
shoulder to cry on, a power to ap-
peal to. It is the task, therefore, of
devoted parents to provide not
only the immediate needs of secu-
rity but also to establish and in-
culcate in the value system of
their children a successor to
themselves; someone or some-
thing that will take over when
they no longer furnish this vital
need.
In Judaism, it is God. In Egypt
it was the calf and the Nile, the
two symbols of Egypt's prosperity.
The herd and the natural irriga-
tion system for the fertile lands of
the riverbank. Or it may be some
other ideology, materialism,
socialism and the like who in one
form or other wear the deceptive
garb of world salvation and secu-
rity.
This very same situation may
be carried over to the nation as a
whole. The Jewish people
emerged from the dungeons of
Egypt exposed up to this time by
the brutality of Pharaohs,
helplessly deprived of self respect,
insecure and stupefied by cen-
turies of oppression.
The first major crisis occurred
when Moses was delayed coming
