Gad Rosenbaum, an advocate
for Yiddish literature, died Feb.
26 at age 95.
Mr. Rosenbaum began as a
locksmith and later was the co-
founder of Acorn Iron Works, Inc.
In 1979, he was given the Cele-
bration of Life Award of the
American College of Nursing
Home Administrators as the "out-
standing nursing home resident
of the year" for all of North
America.
He was a lifelong member of
Branch 156, Workmen's Circle.
Mr. Rosenbaum is survived by a
son, Edward; two daughters, Mrs.
David (Ida) Kost of Deerfield Be-
ach, Fla., and Mrs. Yuda (Berta)
Golahny of Newton, Mass.; a sis-
ter, Machla Dzien of France; six
grandchildren and two great-
grandchildren.

Mrs. Bloomgarden
Florence Bloomgarden, a life
member of Temple Beth El and
past president of its sisterhood,
died Feb. 22 at age 90.
A native of Chicago, Mrs.
Bloomgarden was a board
member of Women's American
ORT, a cabinet member of the
Jewish Welfare Federation, a
member of the National Council
of Jewish Women, the Sinai Hos-
pital Guild, Franklin Hills Coun-
try Club and the Founders Society
of the Detroit Institute of Arts.
She leaves a daughter, Mary
Kessler; two grandchildren and
three great-grandchildren.

Violinist Dies
Reno, Nev. — Efrem Zimbalist,
Sr., composer and renowned con-
cert violinist and father of actor
Efrem Zimbalist, Jr., and
grandfather of actress Stephanie
Zimbalist, has died at age 95.
The Russian-born violinist
studied violin with his father and
at the St. Petersburg Conservat-
ory. He earned a reputation in
Europe prior to emigrating to the
U.S. in 1911. He made his debut
with the Boston Symphony Or-
chestra.

Harold Arnow
Harold Arnow, a former Detroit
Times reporter, died Feb. 20 at
age 76.
A native of Chicago, Mr. Arnow
first worked as a reporter at the
City News Bureau there, later
coming to the Times. In the 1930s,
he worked for the Federal Writers
Project. After the Times folded,
Mr. Arnow worked as public rela-
tions director for the Michigan
Heart Association until he re-
tired.
He is survived by his wife, Har-
riette; a son, Tom of San Antonio,
Tex.; and a daughter, Marcella.
