Looking at the state restaurant
scene for 1985, Jon Gould, chair-
man of the Michigan Restaurant
Association, says sales of $4.7 bil-
lion are expected . . . Due to more
working mothers and smaller
households, a seven percent in-
crease in sales is anticipated.
DIETER DEPT ... how about
some skinny jelly . . . recipe from
Vogue . . . Some chic, sheer person
they know dotes on this sweetie
... The makings call for one bottle
of fruit- or cola-flavored low-
caloried soft . drink, plus one
envelope of unflavored gelatine
. . . Heat enough of the soft drink
to dissolve all the gelatine, add a
dash of salt and the rest of the
drink . . . Chill mixture, then eat
it whenever you're craving some-
thing sweet . . . (10 calories per
serving and the only part of your
body that will fatten up are your
hair and nails) . . . When you
crave meat, a plateful of bite-size
pieces of lean beef, chicken, tar-
key or veal are great . . . All these
need is a dash of salt and pepper
when the carnivore in you comes
out.
WAS EITHER AN "off night"
or place is not what it used to be
. . . Went to Joe Muer's on Gratiot
and had a disspaointing dish of
sauteed perch . . . Came served
veritably swimming in butter .. .
Good chefs don't sautee their
perch carelessly ... and good
waiters certainly kno
w not to
bring customers a very wet dish of
perch.

MICHIGAN OPERA
THEATRE'S Go For Baroque
program plus John Gay's 18th
Century The Beggar's Opera be-
gins a state-wide tour Feb. 25 .. .
The 11th annual MOT residency
tour is a week-long program of
one-act operas, musical revues,
master classes, workshops, reci-
tals and commissioned works that
are designed to both entertain and
educate students about many di-
versified aspects of the opera
world . . . The Beggar's Opera, an
opera sung in English and pre-
sented in three acts, is a lively
satire on contemporary theatrical
conventions and political be-
havior combining prose, verse and
music . . . It has gone through
numerous adaptations, the most
famous being Kurt Weill's and
Bertolt Brecht's The Three Penny
Opera.
HAVE YOU HEARD . . .
about the fellow who never wor-
ried about his marriage . . . until
he moved from Chicago to Los
Angeles . . . and discovered he
still had the same milkman?
