SHEILA SLOAN WRITES . . . "Even after the curtain closed opening night at the Fisher Theatre, the La Cage Aux Folles cast continued to exude warmth and humor at the afterglow recep- tion held for them in the candlelit Terrace Room at Detroit's luxuri- ous Riverfront apartment com- munity. "Immediately following the show, La Cage stars Peter Mar- shall (George), Keen Curtis (Al- bin), Ronald Dennis (Jacob), and other company members were treated to a late-night supper while they mingled with guests and enjoyed the music played by pianist Bernie Schwartz. "La Cage company manager, Mark Andrews (close friend of Phyllis Marra, Bloomfield Hills, and David CiChiera, general di- rector of the Michigan Opera Theatre) attended the reception accompanied by his assistant, Michael Sanfilippo. "The La Cage cast — which would be exclusively men if not for the two women in the chorus line — were eager to see River- front's Health Club where they have an open invitation to work- out during their stay in Detroit. "Although the reception was scheduled to end at 1 a.m., the celebrating and conversation fi- nally subsided sometime after 2 a.m. "Familiar faces attending the afterglow reception included: Ellie Smith, Birmingham; David Handleman, Birmingham; Pat- ricia Hill Burnett (former Miss Michigan), W. Bloomfield; Richard and Sheila Sloan, Bir- mingham; Miles and Lee Jaffe, Detroit; Elizabeth Young (Mayor Young's sister-in-law), Detroit; Dr. Richard and Jane Lamont, Detroit; Bob Kaiser (boat racer), Detroit; Herb Strather, Detroit; Daniel Webb, Detroit; Alice Combs, Detroit; Alan Abramson (antique dealer), Detroit; Ron and Joyce Mason, Detroit; (Joyce is a descendent of the Schoenherr family which has been in Detroit since 1842, and Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Roesler, Detroit." - MICHIGAN RESTAURANT Association (MRA) recently awarded $9,000 to students enrolled in Michigan college food- service programs . . . 25 students received grants of $250 to $750 each, based on academic perform- ance and financial need . . .
