Peres was also critical of the
meeting last weekend of six Is-
raelis — three Jews and three
Arabs — with Arafat at his
Tunis headquarters. "I don't
see any use in such a meeting.
If anyone wants to accept dic-
tation from Arafat he doesn't
have to travel to him. It's
enough to write him a letter,"
Peres said.
The six could face prosecu-
tion for endangering national
security. Rightwing members
of the Knesset are already de-
manding that the two MKs in
the group be stripped of their
immunity and put on trial.
The delegation consisted of
members of the Progressive
List for Peace, a coalition of
Jewish leftists and Israeli
Arab nationalists which won
two Knesset seats in last Ju-
ly's elections. They are Gen.
(Res.) Matityahu Peled and
Muhammed Miari, both Knes-
set members; former MK Uri
Avneri; Dr. Yaacov Arnon;
Lamel Daher, a lawyer; and
the Rev. Riah Abu-el-Asal.
Meanwhile, in Washington
Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) has
put Egypt on notice that as a
member of the Senate Appro-
priations Committee's
Foreign Operations Subcom-
mittee he will urge his col-
leagues not to approve any
"substantial aid" for Egypt
until it sends its Ambassador
back to Israel.
Specter made this warning
directly to Egyptian Foreign
Minister Esmat Abdel Meguid
when Meguid met with the
Senate Foreign Relations
Committee last Thursday. He
was the only Senator who was
not a committee member pre-
sent.

Crockett Seeks
Confab With
PLO Official .

Washington — A Detroit Con-
gressman has invited the Pales-
tine Liberation Organization's
permanent observer at the United
Nations to meet with members of
the House Foreign Affairs Com-
mittee and the Congressional
Black Caucus.
U.S. Rep. George Crockett (D)
sent a memo to members of the
two groups last week, asking if'
they would be interested in meet-
ing informally with the PLO's
Zehdi Terzi: Crockett, who said he
got the idea for the meeting after
reading Terzi's testimony before
the Foreign Affairs Committee of
the Canadian Senate last year,
claims that the PLO official "indi-
cated that he would be receptive
to the idea."
Four members notified Croc-
kett's office this week that they
would consider the idea. Others
have rejected the proposed meet-
ing outright.
