The senior adult department of
the Jewish Community Center
will begin a six-part lecture series
on the aging at 1 p.m. today in
Jaffe Hall of the Jimmy Prentis
Morris Branch.
Guest speaker will be Louise
Churches, Oakland County Serv-
ices specialist for the Area Agency
on Aging, Region 1-B. She will
speak on "Coping With Aging."
All seniors are invited free of
charge. The program is co-
sponsored, by the Gray Panthers,
an organization whose goal is to
promote a positive public attitude
toward aging.

Dr. Oscar Bigman, chief of pul-
monary medicine at Sinai Hospi-
tal, will speak on "Overview of
Breathing Problems — Preven-
tion and Treatment" at 1 p.m.
Tuesday in the Morris Branch as-
sembly hall. A followup workshop
will be held at 11 a.m. Feb. 26 in
room 15 of the Morris Branch. All
seniors are invited free of charge.
Both programs are supported
by a grant from the Area Agency
on Aging, 1-B.

Louise Churches

The senior adults are planning
a trip to a ballet on Feb. 24, leav-
ing the Morris Branch at 6:45 p.m.

Summer Sports Tour

The Jewish Center and the
Maccabi Institute for Sports
Training (MIST) will sponsor an
athletic-touring program this
summer in Israel from June 30 to
Aug. 8 for Jewish athletes age
14-18.
The International Maccabi
Games will be hosted by Israel
this year in July.
The summer program features
two week of sports training at var-
ious locations throughout Israel.
Small groups will be coached by
professional Israeli instructors
according to their level of ability.
Concentrations will be offered
in tennis, basketball, soccer, and
volleyball. A separate water-
sports group will include wind-
surfing, and scuba diving in Eilat.
All the sports programs feature
the "outdoor challenge" with ac-
tivities such as, snorkeling, rap-
peling, and intertube rafting on
the Jordan River.
Four week so of extensive tour-
ing are a highlight of the pro-
gram.

Danielle Peleg will show a col-
lection of Jewish and Israeli art,
including etchings, lithographs,
watercolors and prints, at the
main Jewish Center from Satur-
day until March 6.
As a native Israeli who came to
the United States about six years
ago with her husband, Shmuel
and three sons, she arrived with a
solid background in Israeli art.
She was educated at the State Col-
lege for Art Teachers in a suburb
of Tel Aviv and also studied in
Paris.
A wine reception will be held on
Saturday at 7:30 p.m. It is open to
the public. For information, call
the Center, 661-1000, ext. 250.

Kobi Greitser, a MIST repre-
sentative, will speak about the
program at 1 p.m. Sunday at the
Center.
The cost of the program is
$2,150 plus round trip air fare
from New York. For information,

Discussion Group
For Retirees

"Keeping Current: Discussing
the 1980s" is a discussion pro-
gram forming at the main Jewish
Community Center for a special
group of former professionals age
60 and over. •
This discussion group is geared
towards people who have
traveled, keep current on local,
state, and national affairs and
were/alare active in community,
state and national Jewish affairs.
The group will feature com-
munal leaders and experts who
will participate in regular discus-
sion sessions.

A medical team will discuss ar-
thritis at the next meeting of the
Jewish Center's Active Adults
