Aliyah, volunteering and busi-
ness and investment oppor-
tunities in Israel will be among
the workshop topics at the Step
Up To Israel Conference to be held
Feb. 17 at the main Jewish Com-
munity Center at 1 p.m.
"Volunteering in Israel" will be
co-chaired by Kenneth Bob. Bob is
presently the director of the Kib-
butz Aliyah Desk and has been
living on Kibbutz Gezer since
making aliyah in 1976. During
that time he has served as trea-
surer, cultural coordinator and
factory manager on the kibbutz.
Before he made aliyah, he was
active in Jewish and Zionist work
at the University of California at
Berkeley and served as the na-
tional secretary of Habonim
Labor Zionist Youth..
He has lectured in North
America and Israel on kibbutz
life, the American Jewish com-
munity, Zionism, the Middle East
conflict, the political situation
within Israel and related subjects.
Benny Schwarz will head the
aliyah workshop. Schwarz made
aliyah in 1949 from Czechos-

Immunizations Given
At Farmington Clinic

The Oakland County Health
Division will be offering an im-
munization clinic for Farmington
and the surrounding areas at the
Ten Mile Community School,
32789 Ten Mile Rd., Farmington,
Wednesday 9 a.m. to noon.
Immunizations for measles,
German measles, mumps, polio,
diphtheria, tetanus and whooping
cough will be available.
A parent or legal guardian
must accompany a child under 18
years of age. Any previous records
of immunizations, including
notices which might have been
sent home from the child's school
pertaining to immunizations
should be brought.
Immunizations will be given at
the same time and location on the
second Wednesday of every other
month. The next scheduled im-
munization clinic will be April 10.

Dr. Barbara Conway, of Sinai
Hospital of Detroit's Problems of
Daily Living Clinic, will present a
free lecture, "Living After a Loss,"
at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Sinai's
Zuckerman Auditorium, 6767 W.
Outer Drive.
Dr. Conway's talk is the sixth of
a free, seven-part series.
The last lecture, to be held Feb.
19 at 7:30 p.m. will be presented
by the Problems of Daily Living
Clinic's nationally known direc-
tor, Dr. F. Paul Pearsall; who will
discuss "The Important Dif-
ference Between Thriving and
Merely Surviving."
Free parking will be available
in the Shapero School of Nursing
parking lot, adjacent to the au-

Jordan Valley Planning Depart-
ment in Israel. Currently he is the
community shaliach for met-
ropolitan Detroit and Israel
Aliyah Center. In addition, he re-
presents the kibbutz movement
and Habonim-Dror.
The workshop on business and
investment opportunities will be
co-chaired by Rochelle Komer
Jackier. Mrs. Jackier is the execu-
tive director of the newly estab-
lished American-Israel Chamber
of Commerce and Industry of Met-
ropolitan Detroit, whose primary
purpose is to encourage Michigan
companies and industry to export
from and invest in Israel.
She has been active both in the
general and Jewish community.
She has volunteered for the
United Foundation Torch Drive,
Women's American ORT, Hadas-
sah, and on the board of the
Women's Division of the Jewish
Welfare Federation. In 1978, Mrs.
Jackier established and became
co-ordinator of the Israel Informa-
tion and Resource Center. She re-
ceived the national leadership
award of the Jewish Welfare
Board in 1980.
She has-:been teaching Israeli
folkdancing for several years and
has been performing with an Is-
raeli folkdance troupe for eight
years.

United Synagogue
Official Will Speak

Charles Hoffman, head of the
Israel affairs and aliyah at United ry
Synagogue of America, will dis-
cuss "Can Reform and Conserva-
tive Judaism Survive in Israel?"
at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Jimmy
Prentis Morris Branch of the
Jewish Community Center.
The meeting is sponsored by the
Association of Parents of Ameri-
can Israelis, the Detroit Zionist
Federation, and the Detroit Chug
Aliyah.
Hoffman, the shaliach for
aliyah, is on leave from the
Jerusalem Post where he is a re-
porter and feature writer. He
made aliyah from Houston, Tex.,
with his wife, Hanna, and their K
three children in 1970.
He is a Phi Beta Kappa
graduate of Brandeis University
and he also holds a master's de-
gree from Hebrew University.

Philatelists To Meet

The Detroit/Oak Park Stamp
Club, Society of Israel Philatelists
will meet on Tuesday, 8 p.m. at
the Oak Park Community Center.
The program will consist of a slide
show entitled "The Postal History
of the Sinai Campaign of 1956." A
donation auction will be held.
A trading bourse will precede
the meeting. Refreshments will
be served. Admission is free.
