JCCouncil Begins
Education Forums

The first in a series of educa-
tional forums on issues of contem-
porary interest will be presented
by the Jewish Community Coun-
cil of Metropolitan Detroit at 8
p.m. Feb. 12 at Temple Emanu-El.
Co-sponsored by the temple, the
program is entitled "U.S. Policy in
Central America: Two Views."
The program will feature pre-
sentations by Dr. Judith Laikin
Elkin, adjunct professor of history
at the University of Michigan,
and John Hamilton of the U.S.
State Department's office of Cen-
tral American Affairs.
Dr. Elkin is the author of Jews
of the Latin American Republics,
and is president of the Latin
American Jewish Studies Asso-
ciation. She has recently returned
from three months in Argentina
as a Fulbright scholar.
Hamilton is a regional political
affairs officer, who has been with
the State Department since 1970.
He is a former member of the Pol-
icy Planning and Coordination
Council, and has held diplomatic
posts in Mexico City, Madrid and
Salonika.

Asthma Center Offers
Lung Disease Series

The Center. for Asthma, Em-
physema and Allergic Disorders
will sponsor a five-part series of
classes designed specifically for
senior citizens with lung disease.
The classes being offered are:
"Medications" (Feb. 4), "Brea-
thing Exercises" (Feb. 11),
"Money and Chronic Illness"
(Feb. 18) and "What Happens in
the Hospital?" (Feb. 25).
All classes will be held from 7-8
p.m. and will be presented by Dr.
Bruce Dubin, director of the cen-
ter and Carol Vick, director of the
center's Pulmonary Rehabilita-
tion Department.
Enrollment is limited. To regis-
ter or for further information, call
