San Diego, Calif., and David I.;

Ruth Feldman Dies,
Was BBW Leader

Washington (JTA) — Ruth
Feldman, who served as executive
director of B'nai B'rith Women
from 1983 to 1985, died of cancer
last week. She was 52.
Prior to her arrival in Washing-
ton, Feldman was executive direc-
tor of the Buffalo Philarmonic Or-
chestra for five years. An accom-
plished pianist and registered
music therapist, she served as di-
rector of social rehabilitation and
creative arts therapies for the
New York State Department of
Mental Hygiene prior to her work
with the Buffalo Philharmonic.
Feldman was the co-author of a
book and wrote several articles
examining ways arts organiza-
tions can best serve the hearing
impaired.
Her interest in combining
music and service to the handi-
capped led to her appointment on
the President's Committee o n
Employment of the Handicapped.
She also worked closely with
the American Symphony Or-
chestra League and the National
Rehabilitation Association.
Feldman was also a member of the
national executive council of the
American Jewish Committee.

Dr. George J. Winton, a retired
psychiatrist, died Jan. 24 at age
75.
Born in Connecticut, Dr. Win-
ton was graduated from the Uni-
versity of Michigan and Wayne
State University Medical School.
He was a consultant to Veterans
Hospital and Wayne County Gen-
eral Hospital.
Dr. Winton was a captain in the
Army Medical Corps in World
War II. He was the head psychiat-
rist in Iran for the Army Medical
Corps.
He leaves his wife, Sylvia; a
son, Jeffrey; a daughter, Andrea;
a brother, Frank; and one grand-
child.

IDA WEINGARDEN died Jan.

Warren Shwayder, founder of
The Shwayder Co., died Jan. 24 at
age 62.
Born in Denver, Colo., Mr.
Shwayder was a member of Tem-
ple Beth El, Society of Metallurgi-
cal Engineers, a board member of
the Detroit Chapter of the Techn-
ion and a board member of the
Detroit Science Center.
He leaves his wife, Joann; four
sons, Michael of California, Mark
of New York, Tor of Rochester,
N.Y. and Walter; his mother, Mrs.
Benjamin (Reva) Shwayder; and
three grandchildren.

Harry Hecker Dies

Harry Hecker, a retired linen
supply driver, died Jan. 23 at age
72.
Born in Austria, Mr. Hecker
lived most of his life in Detroit. He
was a member of Cong. Shaarey
Zedek and Louis Marshall Lodge
of B'nai B'rith.
He leaves a son, Dr. Earl; two
daughters, Mrs. Roland (Karen)
Van Fleet and Mrs. Marshall
(Marlene) Solomon; a sister, Mrs.
Willie (Rose) Greenwald; and
eight great-grandchildren.
