THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Deli Unique 25290 GREENFIELD North of 10 Mile Rd Jail Sentences 2 For 2 Neo-Nazis In W. Germany Bonn (JTA) — A Frankfurt court has sentenced 29-year-old neo-Nazi leader Michael Kuehnen to three years and four months imprisonment. Last ) month, Kuehnen was found guilty of printing and spreading neo- Nazi propaganda material. A companion of Kuehnen, Arnd-Heinz Marx, was given a \, 21/2-year prison sentence. The court also decided to deprive /- Kuehnen of his civil rights for a ) period of five years, and to deprive Marx of his civil rights for three years. Kuehnen is considered by police as one of the most effective and i dangerous neo-Nazis in the coun- try. He has cooperated with Pales- tine Liberation Organization ter- ) rorists and in the last few years he led a banned fascist organization. Kuehnen was extradited from France two months ago. He will now face several more trials in \- 1 various cities in West Germany. The charges against him vary from circulating anti-Semitic propaganda to perpetrating vio- lence against foreigners who live in West Germany. In another development, police N in the federal state of Baden Wuertemberg Friday searched • dozens of houses and flats of sus- pected neo-Nazis and confiscated arms, ammunition and explosives and propaganda material. Pro- ceedings have been opened against 17 persons who were found suspicious of committing various offenses. The crackdown came after intelligence suggested that neo-Nazis may plan violent attacks to exploit a general feel- ing of insecurity in the country. For several seeks now, left-wing activists of the urban guerrilla "red army faction" have staged demonstrations and attacked `, NATO and other targets to show • support for terrorists who have been fasting in prison for better ) conditions. Toronto (JTA) — The visit of Pope John Paul II to Canada last fall has prompted the editor of an independent Canadian Catholic newspaper to charge that ecu- \, menical and interfaith relations in Canada have a low priority within the Roman Catholic Church. In a major article in the bi- weekly Catholic New Times, Sis- ter Mary Jo Leddy acknowledged that the Jewish participants, \i among others, in two events dur- / S ing the Pope's visit last Sep- tember suffered "considerable discomfort. The events were an ecumenical service in St. Paul's Anglican (Episcopal) Church in Toronto and what was publicized as an \- t "interfaith" service in the Roman Catholic Cathedral in Edmonton, Alberta. But the tone of the services, which stressed the importance of Christian unity in order to evangelize the world, left non- \ Christians, in Leddy's words, 'de- / cidedly uncomfortable." r BENJIE'S DINNER THEATRE AT HYATT REGENCY D DEARBORN JIMMY LAUNCE PROductions 10 i INCLUDES: SOUP, POT., VEG., DESSERT & BREAD BASKET $ 1 2 95 FOR 2 PINE HILLS Restaurant I presents PRICE!
