Big Beaver Concourse, Top of Troy Bldg., Troy FROM THE OUTSIDE, it looks like a country house .. . with its gables and interesting architecture . . . and so the name is appropriately Bobby's Country House . . . on W. Five Mile and Levan, just west of Farmington Rd. in Livonia. This is the former Livonia Inn by Idle Wyld Golf 'Course and Nicky's (no "relation" to one in Troy) before that . . . now owned by Bobby and Alexandria Sakel- laris . . . who have already begun interior renovation plans to make it larger and more beautiful. Seating is now for 140 in the living room and 60 for private parties in the Grill RooM .. . There'll be more when a wall in between is soon taken down .. . Upstairs beats them both with 235 and dance floor for banquets of all types. Bob and Alex not only bought themselves a swell place . . . but also inherited one of the best waitresses this town has seen .. . smiling Pauline_ Baron . . . who always knows exactly what to do at the right time . . . Her gracious personality, friendliness and ut- most efficiency is a problem though . . . As good as she is, Pauline just can't handle an entire restaurant by herself .. . Almost everybody who knows she's there or had Pauline wait on them at Saksey's, Nicky's, Livonia Inn, Bobby's or even be- fore Saksey's, insist on this par excellence waitress . . . As a result, she has trained some very good gals . . . so if customers can't get Pauline, they at least are assured of service within her mold .. . which isn't bad at all . . . Being another Pauline Baron is very dif- ficult . . . So second best at Bobby's Country House is much better than at most other places around town. , Then there's Hilda Onofrey, too . . . who does a little bit of every- thing at the restaurant . . . book- ing most of the banquets, evening hostess, making delicious cheesecake for the eatery . . . and when needed, even babysitting for Bob and Alexandria's two chil- dren. The black paneling, fireplace that is always lit, booths and ta- bles, make for an intimate setting at Bobby's Country House .. . and those red drapes are finally gone . . . Even the entrance will be someplace else in Bob's extensive remodeling program. He and Alex have another res- taurant . . . on Pontiac Trail and Eight Mile in South Lyons . . . The Golden Platter run by Audrey Be- sso, who was a waitress at their former Golden Platter restaurant six years ago on Grand River. Pauline brought me chilled tos- sed salad in large round bowl . . . a tender but bodily consistent and delicious piece of Orange Roughy . . . with Bobby's own sauce of lemon and wine on the side . . . so good we smothered the fish with it. People come from everywhere to see, hear and dance to a duo called Hiz 'n' Herz, Wednesday through Saturday . . . Danny and Darline Siebert . . . He plays an $18,000 computer organ, so far only one of its kind, and she does a good job on the drums . . . both also vocalize . . . While we were there, they played a very diver- sified group of songs from oldies to the '70s . . . interspersed with some '80s . . . As she strums the drums, Darline whips out med- leys that include her version of Barbra Streisand doing Funny Girl tunes . . . Danny on the com- puter organ . . . almost makes it talk . . . with backgrounds of vio- lins, guitar, flute, vocals, etc. . . . His piano keyboard operation is excellent. They're a lovely husband- and-wife combination . . . and if they make music in togetherness at home as good as they do at Bob- - by's Country House, Darline and Danny have a fine marriage in- deed. Besides their Golden Platter restaurants, Bobby and Alexan- dria are no strangers 'to the res- taurant business . . . He was a former cook for Sam Boesky at Darby's . . .- and her grandfather was Louie Bricolas from Sero's on Griswold in downtown Detroit. This is like the best of two worlds . . . in the realm of good dining . . . Bobby's Country House has these reputations as his goal. IT'S NOW Southfield Hilton . . . from former Sheraton- Southfield on W. Nine Mile .. . Renovations will be in order .. . probably with complete gutting and renaming of Yesterday's Classic Oldie's Club and L. J. Loophole's (which should have been changed long ago) fine din- ing room. ON TAP this Sunday at free concert by Somerset Mall is voc- alist Ortheia Barnes; with Jimmy Dowall at the keyboard . . . 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. RECENT NATIONAL Foot- ball Conference playoff game be- tween 49ers and the Giants con- tinued a long-time political sport- ing tradition . . . as New York Mayor Ed Koch and San Fran- cisco Mayor Diane Feinstein bet on the outcome . . . Winner's payoff was native culinary treats for 12 people from the losing mayor's city . . . Since San Fran- cisco won, Mayor Feinstein re- ceived a smorgasbord of New York specialties . . . corned beef, pastrami, dill pickles, rye bread and chopped liver mold shaped like a heart . . . all supplied by Abe Lebewohl's Second Avenue Deli. Mayor Koch loves luxurious dining . . . so had the Giants won, he'd have had a lot of sea food and California wine. GOOD WAITRESS DEPT. . Sue Perchell . . . at Ginopolis', 12 Mile and Middlebelt . . . smil- ing, personable and very efficient . . . Arnold Greenspun of the Bal- timore Jewish Times, sister paper of The Jewish News in Detroit, was here to accompany the adver- tising staff on some of their ap- pointments . . . Evening before his leaving, all went to Ginopolis' .. . Rick Nessel, Lauri Biafore and Joe Mason . . . We joined them later and in time to have the good fortune of Sue waiting on our table . . . Pete Ginopolis, like brother Johnny, always working the house, says Sue is one of their best.
