HERMAN HYMAN BURNS- TEIN, 67, died Jan. 23. He leaves two sons, Martin of Stuart, Fla., and Robert of Orlando, Fla.; a brother, Harry of California; and two sisters, Mrs. Frank (Goldie) Talkow of Flint and Mrs. Eva Abeloff. JOSEPH BROWN, 73, former Detroiter of Seattle, Wash., died Jan. 12. He leaves his wife, Mania; a son, Sidney of Van- couver, Wash.; a daughter, Erica, of Haworth, N.J.; two brothers, Sol of Detroit and David of Oak Park; and five grandchildren. Interment Seattle. MOLLIE KAHN, 78, former Oak Park resident of Los Angeles, Calif., died Jan. 8. Survived by two sons, Donald and Jerome, both of California; a daughter, Mrs. Fred (Marlene) Galperin of Southfield; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Interment Los Angeles. SAMUEL L. KARBAL, 88, of Southfield, died Jan. 19. Survived by a son, Albert E.; two daughters, Mrs. William (Elizabeth) Litt and Mrs. Arnold (Florence) Michlin; a brother, Zelig; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. DR. SAMUEL I. KOVEN, 63, In a political career that spanned more than half a century, Mr. Bentov served in various gov- ernment Cabinet posts, including minister of labor and reconstruc- tion, of housing, and of develop- ment. He headed the Knesset's economic committee until his res- ignation from active political life in 1973. He was the only surviving member of the national adminis- tration of the pre-state Jewish community in Palestine which became the provisional govern- ment of Israel after the Declara- tion of Independence in 1948, of which he was a signator. Born in Poland in 1900, Mr. Be- ntov led a young group of mem- bers of the Hashomer Hatzair movement in 1920 to Palestine where he became a leader of Kib- butz Ha'Artzi. In 1943 he founded and became editor of Mapam's daily newspaper, Al Hamishmar. Besides his work as a journalist, Mr. Bentov authored several books, among them Binational Solution of the Palestinian Prob- Jan. 17. She leaves her husband, Morris; and two grandchildren.
