YOUTH
Teen Mission To Israel
Slated By Local Agencies
Applications are now available
for the second Israel Teen Mis-
sion, July 11-Aug. 19. sponsored
by the Fresh Air Society, the
Jewish Welfare Federation,
United Hebrew Schools and the
Jewish Community Center.
This program pairs 20 students
who have completed the 11th or
12th grades from the Detroit area
with 20 students from the city of
Ramla for 22 days of touring, and
16 days of living with Israeli host
families.
The touring program includes
Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Haifa,
Galilee, Negev, Masada and the
Dead Sea.
The Israel Teen Mission is
geared toward the development of
leadership in Detroit's Jewish
youth. Prior to the trip, there are
six weekly seminars on Israeli
culture, customs and history and
following the trip, participants
commit themselves to serve in a
local Jewish agency for the follow-
ing year or summer.
The American trip leader is
Risa Strauss, who led the trip last
year. Mrs. Strauss has a B.A. de-
gree in Near Eastern and North
African studies from the Univer-
sity of Michigan. A former Young
Judea youth leader and super-
visor at Camp Maas, Mrs. Strauss
is currently the youth coordinator
for Shaarey Zedek, and teaches at
the Shaarey Zedek Hebrew High
School and United Hebrew
Schools High School.
Logistical support, including
transportation, housing, tour
guides and equipment is provided
by the youth and hehalutz de-
partment of the Jewish Agency in
Israel. The trip's cost is partially
subsidized by the Jewish Welfare
Foundation through the Max M.
Fisher Jewish Community Foun-
dation, funded by the United
Jewish Charities.

Coping With Teenagers Is
Sinai Clinic Lecture Topic
Dr. -Susan Silk of Sinai Hospital
of Detroit's Problems of Daily Liv-
ing Clinic will present a free lec-
ture, "Coping and Growing with
Your Teenager," at 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday in Sinai's Zuckerman
Auditorium.
Dr. Silk's talk, which will be the
fourth of a free, seven-part series
designed to provide hints on han-
dling some of life's more predicta-
ble challenges, will include
suggestions on how to cope with
teenagers in the family.
The lectures that will follow
each Tuesday evening at 7:30
through Feb. 19 will be about
dealing with divorce, living after
a loss, and thriving, rather than
merely surviving life's challenge.
All will be presented by Problems
of Daily Living Clinic staff mem-
bers.
SPACE Group
Benefits Teens
Richard Kay will facilitate a
four-week support group for
teenagers, aged 13-17, whose par-
ents are divorced or separated,
beginning Feb. 4.
The group will meet in the
SPACE office on Feb. 4, 11, 18,
and March 4, 7:30 p.m. There will
be no group meeting Feb. 25.
Kay is associated with Regional
Mental Health Clinic and with
Stepfamilies Association of Oak-
land County.
SPACE is a non-sectarian
community service of the Na-
tional Council of Jewish Women
which services separated, di-
vorced and widowed men and
women and their children in the
Detroit metropolitan area.

Greenberg-Irving
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Sol of South-
field-are pleased to announce the
engagement of their daughter,
Julie Ann Greenberg, to Robert
John Irving, Jr., of San Diego,
Calif.
Miss Greenberg is the grand-
daughter of Sabina Singer of
Southfield and the daughter of the
late Mr. Louis Greenberg.
Miss Greenberg is a graduate of
the University of Michigan and
its law school. She now teaches
law at the University of San Diego
Law School.
Her fiance is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Irving of Newbury
Park, Calif., and the grandson of
Mrs. Mary D. Irving of Phoenix,
Ariz. Irving was graduated from
Stanford University, the Ken-
nedy School and the Harvard Law
School. He works for the law firm
of Gibson, Dunn and Crutchen of
San Diego.
The couple is planning a May
wedding.
Liebow-Goodman
Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Liebow of
Farmington Hills announce the
engagement of their daughter,
Sondra Beth, to Leslie Alan
Goodman; son of Dr. and Mrs. Mil-
ton Goodman of Orchard Lake.
A March wedding is planned.
