Rabbi Gordon will have completed 22 years as spiritual leader of Young Israel of Oak-Woods and will become rabbi emeritus of the congregation on July 1. The congregation experienced significant growth following Rabbi Gordon's arrival to the community and an expansion program was undertaken. In 1967, Young Israel of Oak-Woods dedicated its new sanctuary and school building and enjoyed the reputation of the largest Or- thodox synagogue in Metropoli- tan Detroit for many years. The membership has estab- lished an annual lectureship bearing the name of Rabbi Gor- don. The first lecture will be held on Tu B'Shevat, Feb. 6. Dr. Walter S. Wurzburger, rabbi of Cong. Shaaray Tefila, Lawrence, N.Y., professor of philosophy at Yeshiva University and editor of Tradi- tion, will deliver the opening lec- ture. His topic will be "God — Our Oldest Habit or Personal Experi- ence?" The public is invited. A cof- fee hour will follow the program. A testimonial tribute to Rabbi and Mrs. James I. Gordon has been set by the congregation for May 5.
