Writer and lecturer on foreign
policy and a graduate of Whittier
College, Rothmann took graduate
courses at the Hebrew University
in Jerusalem and did research
work in the Soviet Union and

`Step Up To Israel'
Conference Approaches

The third annual community-
wide "Step Up To Israel" confer-
ence will take place on Feb. 17 at 1
p.m. at the main Jewish Commu-
nity Center, according to Annette
Meskin, chairman, and Donald
Fox, co-chairman.
The conference is geared to
youth and adults, those interested
in traveling to Israel to those who
are contemplating living there
(making aliyah).
Program highlights include:
"The Detroit Connection 1985," a
keynote speaker and workshops
on aliyah, travel, business and in-
vestment opportunities, retire-
ment, volunteering in Israel, how

munity, free of charge.
It will be chaired by Leonard
Herman, president of Metro De-
troit ZOA. George Rossman will

Vivian Berry of Detroit and
Palm Beach, Fla., will receive the
Solomon Schechter Medal, one of
the highest awards of The Jewish
Theological Seminary of America,
at a luncheon in her honor spon-
sored by the National Woman's
Patron's Society, on Feb. 6, at the
Henry Flagler Museum, Palm
Beach.

Dr. Gerson D. Cohen, chancel-
lor of the seminary, will be guest
speaker at the luncheon.
Mrs. Berry served as president
of the sisterhood of Cong. Shaarey
Zedek, where she was the first
woman to serve as congregation
committee member. She is also a
founder and past chairman of the
