Shofar Award Recipient
Selected By Young Israel

The Young Israel Council of
Metropolitan Detroit announces
the selection of Alex Saltsman as
its Shofar Award recipient. He
will receive the award at the 73rd
anniversary banquet of the Na-
tional Council of Young Israel
March 17 at the Sheraton Center
in New York.
Saltsman, and his wife, Lillian,
has lent his efforts to Young Israel
branches in Detroit and in Israel.
In the Detroit area, he has allied
himself with Young Israel of De-
troit, Young Israel of Oak-Woods,
Young Israel of Greenfield,
Young Israel of Petach Tikvah
and Young Israel of Katamon Tet.
Saltsman co-chaired the fund-
raising committee for the con-
struction of the eruv in the
Southfield-Oak Park area. He
chaired the Young Israel of
Oak-Woods building committee
for the construction of the
synagogue and contributed the
Saltsman Youth Lounge to the
building.
He co-chaired the Boy Scout
troop of Young Israel of Detroit.
He shared the responsibility of de-
livering two sifrei Torah from the
Stoliner Chasidic movement in
Detroit to the Young Israel of
Petach Tikvah.
Saltsman and his wife are
active supporters of Yeshivath
