Call 354-6060 Free Trade Accord Nears Completion New York (JTA) — Nancy Adams, the U.S. trade represen- tative leading the negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement be- tween the U.S. and Israel, said here that "We are in the ninth or tenth round" and expect to finalize the agreement in the next few weeks. Addressing the national execu- tive committee of the Zionist Organization of America, she pointed out that once the agree- ment is finalized it is submitted to both houses of Congress. As Con- gress must act on the agreement within 60 days, Adams, who is the director of the Middle East Affairs Office of the U.S. Trade represen- tative, noted that the Free Trade Agreement may be in place by mid-July. In its discussion on creating programs to assist. Israel in solv- ing its economic constraints, the ZOA national executive commit- tee recommended several pro- grams whereby American firms and individuals can invest in Is- raeli businesses and enhance Is- rael's ability to further develop industry especially geared towards export. One of the key ingredients to a strong export effort would be a duty-free U.S. market for Israeli products. Adams noted that through the Free Trade Agree- ment all tariffs between the U.S. and Israel will be phased out over a 10-year period. They repose for the time being in the stomach of a 62-year-old diamond polisher who swallowed them during an argu- ment with his employer. The polisher agreed to an x-ray but escaped from his employer's car enroute to a hospital. He was promptly captured by police who along with the employer are wait- ing for the diamonds to emerge. MO. Revson Foundation has an- nounced a new, three-year grant to The Jewish Theological Semi- nary of America. The grant will enable the Seminary to name ten Revson Fellows in each of the next three years, continuing a program begun in 1979 designed to help qualified sutdents pursue their graduate studies in Judaica. Five Revson Fellows have al- ready completed their doctoral programs. Of these, one has joined the seminary faculty, one is teach- ing in Heidelberg, Germany and three are teaching in Israel. Other fellows are continuing work on their doctoral theses with teach- ing in institutions as diverse as General Theological Seminary, Indiana University, Manhattan College and University of London.
