whom Smith considered one of
America's greatest patriots, and
Father Charles E. Coughlin, the
Royal Oak priest, whose anti-
Semitism on the air was finally
terminated by his own church.
(Besieged Patriot does not men-
tion a fact that Editor Phil
Slomovitz revealed years ago in
his column in the Detroit Jewish
News — that Smith in his early
days in Detroit tried to raise
money for a campaign to dis-
credit Coughlin.)
Among the "villains" in the
book are Franklin D. Roosevelt,
whom Smith calls "that cripple
Jew" and "one of the biggest
crooks who ever lived in the
White House," and whose name,
he writes, was really Rosenfeld;
Henry Ford's sons, because they
did not share their father's anti-
Semitism, and Methodist
Bishop G. Bromley Oxnam,
"whose personal life was one of
the most scandalous records in
the history of a public
figure...how a man of this
character, whose sex life was
messy and whose perversions
were known and whose skep-
ticism, atheism and pro-
Communism were matters of
public record — how any man
like this could become the chief
Bishop of the great Methodist
Church is one of the mysteries
of the century. -
Of such ridiculous vitupera-
tions is this book made. But he
warned: while Smith was alive
he claimed that his presses were
turning out 200,000 pieces of
propoganda per day (yes, per
day!) and Besieged Patriot is be-
ing very widely circulated and
should not be lightly dismissed,
for there are millions of
Americans, who, I regret, are
gullible enough to believe such
inflammatory nonsense.

Elizabeth, N.J. — B'nai B'rith
Career and Counseling Services,
for many years devoted almost
entirely to testing and advising
teenagers, is finding that an in-
creasing number of new clients
are adults seeking second careers.
Reporting to the semi-annual
meeting of the CCS commission,
Dr. Max Baer, national coor-
dinator for the agency, said that
the trend exists not only at all four
B'nai B'rith CCS offices but
throughout the United States.
The B'nai B'rith executive
pointed out that the number of
women in the U.S. labor force has
doubled in the past 20 years, from
almost 25 million in 1964 to over
50 million last October. Some who
appear for counseling, he said,
had not been employed prev-
iously, others hadn't held a job for
years and needed to be brought up
to date on changes in the labor
market, while still others want to
change their occupations.
