New York (JTA) — The Or-
thodox Jewish Archives, an in-
stitution founded by Agudath Is-
rael of America, has recenty
added to its collections the per-
sonal papers of two Orthodox fig-
ures who played significant roles
in the fortunes of European Jewry
in the years leading up to, and
including, World War II, it was
announced by Agudath Israel.
One set of the new materials in-
cludes written exchanges of Rabbi
Azriel (Ezra) Munk of Berlin,
associated with the Rabbinischer
Landesrat, the supreme rabbini-
cal council of the Agudath Israel
in Germany.
The other consists of a part of
the 1944 correspondence of Dr.
Yaakov Griffel, an activist work-
ing in Turkey with Agudath Is-
rael and other Orthodox agencies
toward th rescue of Jews from the
Holocaust. Both of these collec-
tions, containing original docu-
ments, are now available to schol-
ars and researchers for the first
time, Agudath Israel reported.
The archives has also obtained
a microfilm copy of a substantial
portion of the published editions
\_ of Dos Vort, a major Orthodox
weekly issued in Vilna from 1925
to 1939, serving the community of
the world famous Torah leader
and "posek," Rabbi Chaim Ozer
Grodzinski. The acquisition is
part of an effort to gather all such
records of pre-war religious life in
a central Orthodox archival re-
source.
The Archives is headquarted at
5 Beekman Street in New York,
and arranges photographic ex-
hibitions periodically at other lo-
cations.

Shimon Peres said Monday that
as much as he would like to see an
\ /
independent Palestinian leader-
ship emerge in the West Bank, it
`,-,. cannot be permitted at this time
j
because however sincere and
\ ? peaceful their intentions, the
j
Palestinian leaders "would have
to dance to the tune" of the ter-
rorists.
Peres expressed his views at a
luncheon meeting of the Foreign
Press Association. "I wish it
would happen," he said of the
emergence of a local Palestinian
leadership. "But I think it will be
cut by terrorism. I believe that a
part of the Arab world's problem
stems from their being paralyzed
by terrorists.
He mentioned the recent assas-
sination in Amman, Jordan of
Fahed Kawasme, the deposed
mayor of Hebron, who though an
official of the Palestine Liberation
Organization, was gunned down
,
by PLO dissidents who thought
/
that even the PLO faction headed
by Yasir Arafat was too "moder-
ate".
He referred also to Issam Sar-
tawi, another senior PLO official
who was murdered in Portugal
more than a year ago because he
seemed to be genuinely seeking a
political dialogue with Israel. He
had been attending a meeting of
the Socialist International.
