be ordained a rabbi.
From 1927 to 1936, he was the
synagogue administrator and
educational director of the Oheb
Zedek Congregation in Cleveland
and from 1936 to 1939 he served
in a similar capacity at the Anshe
Emeth Temple in Youngstown,
Ohio.
He became Temple Beth El's
executive secretary in 1939. He
was allied with many major De-
troit Jewish organizations as well
as national Reform bodies. He re-
ceived citations and honors from a
variety of organitations, both
Jewish and civic.

Jane Sherman

Temple Israel will join in the
community-wide effort on behalf
of the Jewish Welfare Federation
and the Allied Jewish Campaign
by designating its sgrvice at 8
p.m. today as Campaign-
Federation Sabbath.
Jane Sherman, long-time Tem-
ple Israel member and a leader in
the Federation and Campaign,
will deliver the sermon on the sub-
ject, "The Unbreakable Partner-
ship."
A member of Federation's
Executive Committee and a major
gifts chairman for the 1985 Allied
Jewish Campaign, Mrs. Sherman
has played a key leadership role
over many years in the local, na-
tional and international com-
munities.
As a former chairman of the
Campaign's Project Renewal and
the United Israel Appeal's na-
tional committee, she was in-
strumental in "twinning" the De-
troit community with that of
Rarida, Israel.
In recognition of her efforts,
Mrs. Sherman was recently
named an honorary citizen of
Ramla. She currently co-chairs
the International Project Re-
newal Committee of the Jewish
Agency for Israel, on whose board
she serves.
A board member of the United
Jewish Appeal and the UIA, Mrs.
Sherman is also on the UJA
Women's Executive Committee
and president of the Detroit Sec-
tion of the Israel Chamber of
Commerce and sits on the board of
the Fresh Air Society.
Mrs. Sherman is a. recipient of
the Federation's Sylvia Simon
Greenberg Award.
