It wasn't long before another room and 45 more seats had to be added . . . and still there was trouble accommodating the people who wanted to get in .. . Imagine this little place out in Plymouth open seven days a week, serving a thousand people every day. There hag to be much wonder- ment what the secret is . . . or if Tina and Nick are giving away gold coins . . . What they have done is simply upgraded a concept to their own way . . . and it has proven highly successful .. . as warranted by the numbers. You won't find lavish dinners here . . . or even fabulous lunch entrees . . . The menu is pure and simple . . . 11 quiches, 17 sand- wiches, four salads, soups made daily, what appears to be a plain. breakfast menu, beverages and desserts . . . That's it . . . and very obviously enough. The quiches arean't like your ordinary quiche . . . not made with 'custard . . . We had one called "South of The Border" . . . sea- soned ground beef, Jalapeno pep- pers, taco sauce and mozzarella cheese . . . Desserts are not what you can get anywhere . . . Ozark apple pie, walnuts, sliced apples in a pie shell . . . Black Bottom, a layer of walnuts and chocolate cream topped by another layer of vanilla ice cream and smothered with meringue . . . carrot cake .. . three layers of freshly grated car- rots, walnuts and pineapple .. . walnut-raisin pie, raspberry pie, _ etc. I had some bread pudding that was difficult to believe people made anymore . . . truly delicious. Cozy Cafe has its own bake shop upstairs . . . with full-time bakers . . . and therein might lie some of the success . . . You won't find the walnut-raisin sweet rolls at too many places . . . especially home-made . . . and they'll even make pies for you to take home. Cozy. Cafe is just that . . . a cozy place to eat . . . with informal in- timacy a big thing as the Ristich's treat customers like good friends. Al- ways fresh food, grinds its own meat, cuts its own steaks, bakes sourdough rolls, etc. Sixteen fish and seafood dinner selections from $8.95 to $11.95 .. . including fresh lake perch filets ($9.95) . . . three Provimi veals: Veal Escargot ($9.95), Veal Scaloppini ($10.95), Veal Oscar ($11.95) . . . to three steaks from $7,95 to $13.95 . . . to three lamb dishes, $6.95 to $9.95 . . . to three pastas, $7.95 to $9.50 . . . to three poultries, $6.95 to $8.95, five soups and six appetizers . . The famous Topinka's roast prime rib of beef is $13.95 . . . Dinners now include house salad or tole slaw, relish tray with dip, choice of potato du jour or rice, fresh veget- able and homemade bread. People still forget about Topin- ka's when thinking of a good place to eat . . . After all these years it is one of the best dinner bargains around . . . and even more so now. WHO'S WHERE DEPT. ... RECENT WEEKEND, people couldn't get into the Chef Theo- dore (former Darlin' Lilly's) on Orchard Lake Rd. between 12 and 13 Mile . . . Those who waited, though, knew what they were doing and undoubtedly enjoyed a fine dining experience . . . Chef Theodore has taken off like Gangbusters since opening Nov. 5 . . . proof of its good ness is the so many people returning. There's something you don't see anymore . . . a singing chef .. . who comes out of the kitchen, per- haps carrying a birthday cake .. . and vocalizing "Happy Birthday" ``' or "Ole Sole Mio" in operatic tones . . Delighted customers listen in joyous awe as Chef Theodore Mit- ropoulos holds the last note for so long. The importance of an owner/ chef is evident here . . . with Chef Theodore in the kitchen taking pride in his presentations. Service has also been upgraded to a top degree . . . New general manager, Frank Telegadas, is known to many . . . 15 years at Elmwood Casino as Al Siegal's all-around man . . . beginning as a
