Lebanon blast
injures five
DF soldiers

Tel Aviv (JTA) — Five Israeli
oldiers were wounded in south
ebanon last Thursday when an
xplosive charge detonated at a
oadside as their convoy passed
y.
An army spokesman said one
oldier suffered serious wounds,
mother had moderate injuries
nd three sustained only slight
wounds. The incident occurred
near Adlun village on the coastal
road between the Litani and
Zaharani rivers.
In a related development, a
ilitary spokesman announced
at three terrorists were killed
last week and two others were
ounded and captured in a clash
ith an Israel Defense Force
(IDF) patrol northeast of Sidon.
The terrorists were equipped with
n arsenal of attack weapons, the
spokesman said. He identified
them as Shiite and Sunni Mos-
ems.
Meanwhile, former Defense
mister Moshe Arens told a stu-
ent forum at Tel Aviv University
st week that the IDF must re-
am in south Lebanon as long as
ebanon has no firm government
nd is exposed to hostile elements
nd unrest.
He said he opposed any unilat-
ral withdrawal of the IDF from
banon, whether in stages or a
ngle move. He maintained that
afety of Galilee could not be
uaranteed from Galilee itself,
eaning from Israeli territory
lone.
Arens, a Minister-Without-
ortfolio in the unity govern-
ent, claimed that any further
uts in the defense budget would
ndanger the country's security.
