Effort to lure
U.S. workers
to Israel begun

Cleveland (JTA) — An imag-
inative plan for placing American
technical professionals in the top
10-15 percent income level jobs in
Israel, is ready for implementa-
tion, according to Cleveland and
Israel businessman and commu-
nity leader, Max Ratner, chief ar-
chitect of the concept.
Ratner explained that the
American Council for Employ-
ment in Israel (ACEI), a non-
profit group organized as a net-
work for direct job placement in
Israel, operates as an independent
partner with the government of
Israel, the Jewish Agency, and
such Israeli business councils as
the Israel Manufacturers Asso-
ciation.
On the American side, Ratner
noted, ACEI has established close
ties with the American-Israel
Chamber of Commerce, and "wel-
comes collaboration with other
business groups which ascribe to
the principles and sense of
urgency of ACEI."
With the organizational
groundwork established in both
Israel and the United States,
ACEI is beginning to advertise in
major American Jewish com-
munities and in appropriate tech-
nical journals. ACEI is prepared
to respond immediately to indi-
viduals interested in using their
technical knowhow and experi-
ence in Israel.
With an ultimate target of 12
American recruitment centers,
Ratner has announced that he
and his colleagues in the project
are initaiting their efforts in
Cleveland, Los Angeles, San
Francisco, Boston and New York.

Syria ignoring
Bonn request
for Brunner

Bonn (JTA) — Justice Ministry
officials have reported that Syria
has yet to respond to a West Ger-
man request for the extradition of
alleged Nazi war criminal Alois
Brunner who served as a top aide
to Adolph Eichmann and is re-
sponsible for the deportation of
thousands of European Jews to
Nazi death camps during World
War II.
According to officials here,
West Germany made the extradi-
tion request to the Syrian Foreign
Ministry Dec. 18. Brunner is re-
ported to have lived in Damascus
under the assumed name of
George Fischer for more than 20
years.
Brunner, 72 years old, served as
Eichmann's secretary in Vienna
in 1938 when Eichmann headed
the Nazi Central Office for Jewish
Questions, and later headed the
office himself. He later became
the commander at the Drancy
concentration camp in France.
Paris-based Nazi-hunter Serge
Klarsfeld, who first traced Brun-
ner to Syria in 1982, asserted that
Brunner is responsible with the
deaths of 100,000 Jews.. Brunner
is personally accused of ordering
the arrest and deportation on July
31, 1944 of over 300 children,
none of whom was ever seen
again.
