Shamir raps
King Hussein

Jerusalem (JTA) — Deputy
Premier and Foreign Minister
Yitzhak Shamir, accusing King
Hussein of assisting Palestine
Liberation Organization ter-
rorists, warned the Jordanian
ruler that if he wants a settlement
with Israel he had better be pre-
pared to accept Israel's terms be-
cause they "will not change."
Shamir, addressing a meeting
of the executive committee of
Hadassah here, took a line shar-
ply at variance with the stated
policies of his Labor Party
partners in the unity coalition.
"The King (Hussein) will have
to make up his mind to which of
the two camps he wants to belong.
Our position on Jerusalem, on
Judaea and Samaria and on the
right of Jews to live in any part of
Eretz Israel should be absolutely
clear to him, and he would do well
to refrain from entertaining ideas
that it will change. It will not,"
Shamir said.
He warned Hussein that he
could not have the best of both
worlds to assist the PLO terrorists
and at the same time appear as
moderate and peace-seeking in
the eyes of the world.
He expressed hope that the up-
coming Cabinet debate over fu-
ture plans in south Lebanon
would not create a division be-
tween Likud and Labor.
Shamir said he supported a re-
duction of the Israel Defense
Force presence in south Lebanon
in exchange for security ar-
rangements which would guaran-
tee the safety of Galilee.

Buenos Aires (JTA) — The
news media in Argentina are de-
voting an extraordinary amount
of space to the Arab propaganda
effort aimed at opening a PLO
office in Buenos Aires and the
subsequent reaction by the DAIA,
the representative Jewish body in
Argentina, which sought the di-
rect intervention of President
Raul Alfonsin in opposing this de-
velopment.
The World Jewish Congress
'WJC), in a survey of the media,
noted that the traditional morn-
ing paper, La Prensa, in its lead
editorial speaks out categorically
against the introduction of the
PLO in Buenos Aires.
According to the Latin Ameri-
can branch of the WJC,
arguments in the government in
favor of the PLO office are moti-
vated by desire to demonstrate
third world solidarity at a time
when Alfonsin is being touted for
chairman of the non-aligned
movement.
On the other hand, newspapers
report that the Radical Party of
Alfonsin does not wish to offend
the Jewish community, particu-
larly since it collected the over-
whelming majority of its votes in
the recent election: In Buenos
Aires it is said that 120,000 votes
favored the government party. In
his meeting with the DAIA ear-
lier this month Alfonsin pledged
there would be no PLO office.
