Former Detroiter Neal Stul-
berg was selected as the new
music director of the New Mexico
Symphony Orchestra.
Stulberg comes to the NMSO
from the Los Angeles Philhar-
monic, where he served a three-
year appointment as the Exxon/
Arts Endowment Assistant Con-
ductor. Prior to moving to Los
Angeles, Stulberg served in a
number of posts, among them
assistant conductor of the Ameri-
can Symphony Orchestra in New
York. He also has served as
pianist and opera coach on the
staff of the Juilliard School and
the Aspen Music Festival. In
1980, he was a prize-winner in the
Baltimore Symphony's Young
Conductor Competition.
He helped form the Young
Musicians Foundation Debut Or-
chestra in Los Angeles.
Stulberg was gradauted from
Harvard University (magna cum
laude), the University of Michi-
gan and the Juilliard School. He
also studied conducting at the Ac-
cademia Nazionale de Santa
Cecilia in Rome and is an accom-
plished pianist and violist, having
studied with Leonard Shure,
Theodore Lettvin, Mischa Kottler
and Jacob Krachmalnik.

Forum series
continues in '85

The Center for New Thinking
will continue its series of forums
in January with Arthur Koestler
speaking on "Understanding the
Human Condition," Sunday at
2:30 p.m., and with "India: After
Indira Gandhi," Thursday at 10
a.m. Both lectures will be at the
Somerset Mall Auditorium in
Troy.
"Selling Yourself: The Art of
Becoming Desirable" will be the
topic at the Grosse Pointe Forum,
9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the
Grosse Pointe Memorial in Grosse
Pointe Farms.
There is a charge for all the lec-
tures.

in concert

will appear in concert at 8:30 p.m.
