She will share this simcha with Svetlana Mullokanov of Fergana, Uzbeck, USSR. In 1979, Anatoly Mullokanov, Svetlana's father, applied for emigration for himself, his wife, and three children; they were de- nied. Amy has attempted to corre- spond numerous times in the last six months, however, her efforts have been fruitless. At a luncheon to be given in Amy's honor, Irena Gendelman, a teen-ager whose family was suc- cessful in emigrating four years ago from Leningrad, will address Amy's relatives and friends. Amy is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. David J. Berris. LAWRENCE M. KNIT SHOPS Aachen (JTA) — A memorial to the Jewish victims of Nazism has been erected in this West German town near the Belgian border on the site of the synagogue de- stroyed during Kristallnacht in November 1938 (the first pogrom against German Jews launched by the Nazi regime). The memorial, in the form of a Star of David, bears the inscrip- tion: "Those who suppress history run the risk of repeating it." The dedication ceremonies wer attended by the Mayor of Aachen, the rabbi from a nearby town local Jews and representatives o various social groups. Aachen, the state of North Rhine Westphalia, was the first Germa town captured by American force during World War II. In another development, th town council of Schweich, nea Trier, voted to build a cultura center at the former synagogue now used as a warehouse. Loc officials have begun negotiation with the bank which owns th building. The officials said i would be restored to resemble the original synagogue. Prof. Hors Roemer of Kaiserlautern Univer sity has been engaged as a consul tant on the restoration.
