Soviet Jewry stories -
are applauded

I want to thank you for the
wonderful coverage The Jewish
News gave the Human Rights for
Soviet Jewry event. The day was a
tremendous success, the most im-
portant component being the
heightened interest and involve-
ment with Soviet Jewry shown by
the community. I credit much of
this to the enthusiastic exposure
given by The Jewish News.
I would like to commend Heidi
Press for her support and
encouragement as well as her in-
teresting and accurate reporting.
Tedd Schneider's article on the
program itself was excellent and
will, no doubt, stimulate much re-
sponse.

I VAUD WITH COUPON ONLY

Your article (Dec. 28, page 21)
regarding "Israelis Like Negev
Bases" was very interesting but
slightly incomplete. The highly
sophisticated Negev bases were
built in the most part by the U.S.
government, specifically under
the direction of the U.S. Army
Corps of Engineers. The word that
Israel gave up "Chevys" and got
"Cadillacs" was verified in your
article.
I feel very fortunate (and proud)
having had the opportunity as a
Jew being part of the Corps con-
sultation team.
