THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS

LISTENING POST

DANNY RASKIN

THERE'S ALWAYS A bunch
f heebie jeebies that come with
oving to new quarters . . . You
ew what you had but what lies
head is strangerland.
And so The Jewish Jews is at its
new address . . . in the Control
Data Building, 20300 Civic Cen-
ter Drive (10% Mile) between
Evergreen and Northwestern
,Highway service drive.
/ Last move was pridefully a
strange one, too . . . After offices
'in Penobscot and David Stott
Bldgs., it had built its own edifice
on W. Seven Mile Rd., just east of
Southfield . . . and then in 1969
moved to the Honeywell Bldg. on
Nine Mile.
, The Jewish News was bought in
March by publisher of the Balti-
more Jewish Times, Charles E.
"Chuck" Buerger, Editor Gary
Rosenblatt and a limited partner-
ship corporation.
Wheels began turning for a new
locale . . . The Baltimore Jewish
Times has its own building, but
here in Detroit, moving to another
office building obviously seemed
more feasible.
There's plenty of room now .. .
nough for some good old-
ashioned roller skating . . . if you
tay out of the offices . . . and those
ew-fangled phones are the ber-
es . . . except they can't be eaten
.- . The way a Toshiba represen-
tive explained them, though,
ey'll do almost anything else .. .
ou'll still have to buy your own
icrowave oven) . . . Sounds easy
e way he talks . . . that is if he is
elling it to anther Toshiba repre-
entative.
Anyhow, The Jewish News has
oved to its new location .. .
nybody know where I put my
aper clips?
CONGRATS . . . to Esther and
ax Rubin . . . on their 43rd an-
iversary . . . Congrats same day
.. to Esther . . . on her birthday.

,

BOO BOO DEPT. . . . That's
Shirley and Jack Iden and Dee
ind Eugene Rose . . . who celeb-
rate 80th birthday of Shirley's
and Eugene's dad, Jack Rose .. .
in Hollywood, Fla. . . . with his
9ur sisters, seven grandchildren
and three great-grandchildren.
BRYAN MATTHEW ROB-
is a fifth-generation
ewly-born . . . Parents Michael
nd Sandy Robbins . . . Grand-
arents Marge and Jerry Robbins
lus Sheila and Leon Forman .. .
reat-grandparents Mollie
ooper, Helen Gerson and Katie
d Irvin Forman . . . Great-
eat-grandmother Goldie Cohen
. . . He also has a great-great-
great aunt, Esther Glass.
Born Oct. 4, his announcement
(grandfather Jerry is a baseball
ut) came in the form of a baseball
and . . . Bryan's picture on the
ont has him wearing a Detroit
iger shirt and cap . . . Statistics
n back read . . . "One of Bryan's
avorite activities is sleeping. De-
oit Tigers. After spending nine
onths in the minor leagues,
ryan arrived in the big leagues
st in time for the World Series.
hen breastfeeding he appears to
e a switch hitter. This young
ookie's ambition is to sleep
rough the night."

juvenile deliquency or whatever
. . . it's jurist doctor . . . ,degree
given him by Wayne State Uni-
versity Law School . . . Wife
Helene has opened the new
boutique sportswear for gals in
Sunset Strip. on Northwestern .. .
bearing her name.
LOOKING BACK On Col-
umns Of Yesteryears .. .
Sept. 8, 1967 . . . "Her practice
of storing all sorts of kitchen
items, from household cleansers
to powdered milk, in decorative
cannisters is confusing to others
. . . Ruth Moss came home from a
weekend away with their two
daughters to find husband Sol in
the middle of a crisis . . . The
washing machine had gone on the
blink when he tried to wash his
golf shorts, and was giving out
with a gooey mess . . . In be-
wilderment, Sol explained that he
had followed the instructions
exactly . . . When Ruth asked
what soap powder he'd used, Sol
pointed to a flowered cannister .. .
which contained instant
potatoes!"
March 29, 1968 . . . "Mary
Tamaroff may be able to open his
Tamaroff Buick-Opel, Inc. doors
by July or August, depending on
the contractors.
April 19, 1968 . . . "Max Shaye
is surpassing his wide note as a
food man by the artistic ability he
has displayed with the paint and
brush . . . and it all started acci-
dentally . . . Max happened into
the Jewish Community Center
about seven years ago, saw an art
class going on and sat down to
watch . . . It wasn't long before he
was taking lessons after discover-
ing his talents lay in this direction
. . . Today, Max has given one-
man art exhibitions and been
acclaimed for his many fine
works."
April 26, 1968 . . . "Barry
Klein, son of George and Helen
Klein, graduated last week from
Oakland University as the only
student to receive departmental
honors in sociology . . . Barry lost
15 pounds working so hard to
achieve this award."
Jan. 14, 1966 . . . "For months,
Rena and Al Goodstein labori-
ously saved their trading stamps
for the purchase of a table and
chair set . . . Last week, Rena
realized how deep the habit had
become . . . As she was filling
their laSt book, Al remarked,
`Why don't we just go out and buy
the table and chairs? I hate to
spend our hard-earned stamps."
